Slightly over a month ago, Asus’ very first “budget” gaming smartphone, the ROG Phone 9 FE made its global debut. Now, the company has announced that the gaming phone will be launching in Malaysia on the 19th of March. By the way, the “FE” moniker in the phone’s name apparently stands for “Fan Edition”.

Asus ROG Phone 9 FE specs and features

Take a look at the Asus ROG Phone 9 FE, and you will immediately be able to tell that it’s an ROG Phone, as it shares a similar design with the rest of the ROG Phone 9 lineup. It even features the iconic Anime Vision lighthing on its back.

At the front, you get a 6.78-inch Full HD+ AMOLED display that boasts a refresh rate of up to 185Hz. The phone is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset, which powered many Android flagships launched in 2024, instead of the latest 8 Elite, most probably to reduce the phone’s asking price. The chipset is then paired with 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 256GB of UFS 4.0 storage.

To help enhance your gaming experience, the Asus ROG Phone 9 FE features a pair of capacitive Air Trigger buttons. Customers can also choose to add on the optional AeroActive X Pro or the ROG Tessen mobile controller.

Keeping lights on for the ROG Phone 9 FE is a 5,500mAh battery, which is 300mAh smaller than the unit found on the non-FE ROG Phone 9. This battery can be cgarged at 65W via USB-C or wirelessly at 15W.

Software-wise, you get Google’s Android 15, with Asus’ ROG UI skin built on top. Also, the ROG Phone 9 FE is IP68-rated for dust and water resistance.

Asus ROG Phone 9 FE to be priced under RM3,500 in Malaysia?

In our neighbouring country, Thailand, the Asus ROG Phone 9 FE made its launch in February with a THB29,990 (about RM3,938) asking price.

For context, the non-FE ROG Phone 9 and ROG Phone 9 Pro in Malaysia can be had with a starting price of RM3,999 and RM4,999 respectively. With that said, can we hope to see the phone to be priced under the RM3,500 mark when it launches here in Malaysia?
