Huawei has just launched the world’s first tri-fold smartphone, the Huawei Mate XT Ultimate Design, here in Malaysia. This smartphone is said to be the thinnest foldable phone when unfolded and features the industry’s thinnest battery.

Huawei Mate XT Malaysia price and availability

Priced at RM14,999, the Huawei Mate XT is available for pre-order starting today until the 14th of March 2025, via Huawei Experience Stores, as well as Huawei’s official website, Shopee store, Lazada store, and TikTok Shop. If you drop your pre-order for the Huawei Mate XT today, you will get Huawei’s 1-year screen protection worth RM3,999.

The Mate XT is available in two shades, namely Red and Black. The device comes with 16GB of RAM and 1TB of storage.

Huawei Mate XT Malaysia specs and features

As mentioned above, the Huawei Mate XT is the thinnest foldable smartphone on the market, at least when fully opened, measuring just 3.6mm thick. When you fold the Mate XT all the way to its most compact form, it measures 12.8mm thick.

In terms of display, you get a 6.41-inch cover display with a resolution of 2232 x 1008 pixels when the device is in its folded form. Put it in its “bi-fold” form, and you will get a larger 7.93-inch display that pushes out 2232 x 2048 pixels, giving you slightly more real estate while still staying compact enough to bring around easily.

But of course, being a tri-fold smartphone, the Huawei Mate XT doesn’t just stop there as it can even be expanded further to 10.2 inches, giving you a full 3K resolution of 3184 x 2232 pixels. Also, the Huawei Mate XT’s OLED display has an adaptive refresh rate of up to 90Hz.

Huawei claims the Mate XT is the lightest large-screen phone, weighing just 298g. For comparison, the 10th-gen iPad 10.9-inch weighs 481g. Under the “hood” of the Huawei Mate XT Ultimate Design is the brand’s in-house developed Kirin 9010 processor.

At the back of the Huawei Mate XT, you get the Ultra Aperture XMage camera system, consisting of a main 50MP camera with an adjustable aperture of between f/1.4 and f/4.0 and OIS. Next up, you get a 12MP f/3.4 telephoto shooter that can zoom optically up to 5.5x and features OIS as well.

When you need to capture images in tighter spaces, there’s the 12MP f/2.2 ultrawide sensor. Last but not least, there’s also an 8MP f/2.2 selfie shooter up front.

Aside from being the thinnest foldable smartphone when unfolded, the Mate XT Ultimate Design is also said to house the industry’s thinnest battery, measuring just 1.9mm thick, with a capacity of 5,600mAh.

This battery can be charged using Huawei’s SuperCharge technology at a rate of 66W via USB-C and 50W using Qi wireless charging. Software-wise, the Huawei Mate XT Ultimate Design runs on the brand’s HarmonyOS 4.2.
