TNG eWallet SOS Balance saved 150,000 “Baki Kurang” drivers at tolls in less than 10 days

Touch ‘n Go eWallet recently introduced its SOS Balance feature which aims to help people avoid getting stuck at the toll booth if they have insufficient eWallet balance. The feature acts as an emergency credit line for toll payments, allowing TNG eWallet users to continue on with their journey and they can pay back the outstanding tolls within 24 hours.

It appears that users passing through tolls without sufficient balance is quite a big issue. As shared by TNG Digital CEO Alan Ni, approximately 150,000 TNG eWallet users have relied on the SOS Balance feature to avoid being stuck at the tolls especially during the peak balik kampung Chinese New Year season.

He shared that in less than 10 days since the feature was rolled out to loyal TNG eWallet users on 23rd January, 150,000 users have collectively recorded over half a million toll transactions with the SOS Balance feature. He added that SOS Balance has become one of the most popular features in TNG eWallet.

Alan also shared that it was encouraging to see high payback rate of SOS Balance users, which reflects the honesty and trustworthiness of Malaysians.

How it works is pretty straightforward. If a user has insufficient balance, the SOS Balance feature will kick in to pay the required toll fare, allowing users to continue to enjoy a seamless journey. Users are given a period of 24 hours to repay the outstanding tolls by reloading the eWallet.

If the user fails to settle the outstanding amount, there are no additional fees but the TNG eWallet payment features will be restricted.

Take note that the SOS Balance feature only works for RFID and TNG PayDirect that’s enabled for your linked Touch ‘n Go card. The activation is immediate for eligible users which is indicated by the “Ready to Use” status in the SOS Balance page.

The SOS Balance feature only works for TNG RFID and PayDirect enabled toll plazas. Essentially all RFID lanes are supported but for PayDirect (including linked TNG card on SmartTAG), you can use it on most highways except LPT1, LPT2, Kajang-Seremban Highway (LEKAS), West Coast Expressway (WCE), North South Expressway (PLUS), NKVE, ELITE, SPDH, LINKEDUA.
