Tesla earlier this week unveiled a new iteration of Model Y which was referred to many prior to the official announcement as “Juniper”. Officially called the New Model Y, Tesla Malaysia has immediately opened the order books for the EV ahead of its expected debut in Malaysia this April but this does not mean you can’t buy the existing Model Y.
You can still get existing Model Y from Tesla Malaysia’s inventory
If you visit Tesla Malaysia’s website right now, you will notice that you are no longer able to “order” the existing Model Y. So, how to get your hands on them then?
What you need to do is dive into Tesla Malaysia’s inventory and then choose the Model Y and New options in the search filter. During our visit to the site at around 6:00 PM today, there were 14 new units of Model Y listed in the inventory.
Get savings as high as RM25k
The existing Model Y was first officially introduced in Malaysia way back in July 2023 but the first delivery only took place last March. A month later, Tesla implemented a price cut for almost all of its EV offerings in Malaysia except for Model 3 Performance.
Before the official announcement of Juniper, here’s the starting price of Model Y in Malaysia:
- Tesla Model Y RWD: RM191,000
- Tesla Model Y Long Range AWD: RM238,000
- Tesla Model Y Performance AWD: RM280,000
Try to compare the standard retail price above to the pricing of the inventory units below:
- Tesla Model Y RWD: RM173,800 to RM194,800
- Tesla Model Y Long Range AWD: RM255,500 to RM260,500
- Tesla Model Y Performance AWD: RM254,400 to RM261,900
With that, you are looking at savings of roughly between RM17,200 to RM25,600. However, take note that the actual savings depend on each unit’s exterior and interior colours as well as their wheel size.
Meanwhile, customers can choose to pick up their Tesla Model Y from the inventory in Tesla Centre Cyberjaya as well as the Tesla Service Centre in Penang and Johor. In other words, these units are not tied to any specific Tesla Malaysia facilities.
