Starlink’s latest standard satellite dish and router set is now available in Malaysia almost one year after it was released in the United States. The new set which is officially called the Standard is replacing the older Standard Actuated set which was introduced back in 2021 before making its way to Malaysia in July 2023.
Not yet available through the Starlink website
Oddly enough, the new Standard set, also known as the V4 kit, is not yet available through Starlink’s website for Malaysian customers. If you place an order through the website, it still provides Malaysian customers with the older Standard Actuated set.
As a comparison, here’s how different it looks when you place a Starlink order for Malaysian and U.S. addresses:
In order to get the new Starlink Standard V4 kit, you have to purchase it through authorised Starlink retailers instead such as Thunder Match, Senheng, SenQ, Gloo, and iTworld. Here’s where it got interesting: Despite that, the kit is being sold at these retailers at a RM1,600.
As you can tell from previous images, the same discounted price is currently being offered to Malaysian customers on Starlink’s website.
Meanwhile, note that you have to sign up for the Starlink plan separately if you purchased the V4 kit at these retailers. The monthly fee for the Starlink Residential plan is RM220, while the Starlink Business plan currently starts at RM318 per month.
The differences between Starlink Standard V4 and Standard Actuated
Physically, you can immediately tell the difference between the Starlink Standard V4 and the older Starlink Actuated set. This is because the V4 dish has a larger surface area and has a built-in kickstand as compared to the Standard Actuated dish that has a mast and x-shaped base.
The V4 also doesn’t have the motorized self-orienting capability of its predecessor. Hence, you have manually aligned the dish by moving it around according to the directions shown by the Starlink app.
In addition to that, the Starlink Standard V4 kit also features the Gen 3 Wi-Fi Router which offers better performance than the Gen 2 Wi-Fi Router that was included in the Standard Actuated kit. The improvements include Wi-Fi 6, a tri-band 4 x 4 MU-MIMO setup, two Ethernet LAN ports, an IP56 rating, and the ability to support up to 235 devices.
