National Stadium Bukit Jalil will soon have its own EV charging hub. The new spot is the result of the latest partnership between Sime Motors and Perbadanan Stadium Malaysia (PSM).
At the moment, details regarding the new EV charging hub at National Stadium Bukit Jalil are still being finalised. Hence, the actual number of chargers, power output, charge point operator, and other related information regarding the new hub is still unknown.
That being said, Sime Motors’ Managing Director of Southeast Asia, Jeffery Gan informed us that the hub will feature a DC charger and “several” AC chargers as a start. He added that Sime Motors is open to increasing the number of chargers once there’s a significant increase in EV uptake and usage.
As for the exact location of the new hub, Jeffrey said that PSM will advise Sime Motors on that matter. Together, they want to make sure that not only that the hub is easily accessible but also prominently visible to users who want to charge their EVs at the National Stadium Bukit Jalil.
Meanwhile, the CEO of PSM, Illiyas Jamil has said in his opening speech that EV charging stations will be installed throughout the stadium grounds. With that, it seems possible that we might see multiple EV charging zones throughout the larger KL Sports City complex.
As part of the new partnership with Sime Motors, PSM will also introduce EVs as part of its stadium operations. Sime Motors will be providing two EVs that PSM going to use as official vehicles for the next 24 months.
Illiyas pointed out that it is part of PSM’s vision to turn the National Stadium Bukit Jalil into a sustainability hub where visitors can have first-hand experience of the benefits of adopting a greener lifestyle. The statuary body is also already looking into adopting solar systems in the near future.
While the grounds at National Stadium Bukit Jalil have been hosting numerous Sime Motors events over the years including the launch of BYD Seal Dynamic and Hyundai Ioniq 5 N preview, this weekend’s AutoArena is the first event that is being done with a close partnership between the two parties. After all, there is no way you can have an automotive event right inside the National Stadium Bukit Jalil itself without such cooperation.
As you may expect, various EV brands under Sime Motors including BMW, BMW Motorrad, BYD, Hyundai, Jaguar, and Volvo are present at the event while there are also a variety of pre-owned EVs available from Auto Selection. Sime Motors AutoArena is happening from today until Sunday, 12 January.
