While participating in Tecno’s Future Lens 2024 event in Chongqing, China, we had the opportunity to check out two of Tecno’s latest foldable smartphones – the Phantom V Fold 2 and the Phantom V Flip 2, which made their international launch in September this year. The latter is the one we’re focusing on here.

It isn’t coming to Malaysia, but its successor might

Like the Phantom V Fold 2, the clamshell-style Phantom V Flip 2 won’t be making its way to Malaysia either, as confirmed by Tecno reps.

The Tecno brand is still relatively new in Malaysia, and the company would prefer to introduce its more premium products only when its brand is more recognised in Malaysia.

Still, Tecno is considering bringing its future generation of foldable smartphones, expected to be called the Phantom V Fold 3 and Phantom V Flip 3, into the Malaysian market.

If you can recall, Tecno did sell the first-gen Phantom V Flip in Malaysia. Launched in October 2023, it fetched a retail price of RM2,999.

Tecno Phantom V Flip 2 specs and features

The Tecno Phantom V Flip 2 sports a clamshell-style foldable design, making it a competitor to the likes of the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6 and Xiaomi Mix Flip.

Open the phone up and you will find a 6.9-inch 120Hz LTPO AMOLED display with a resolution of 2640 x 1080 pixels. Fold the Phantom V Flip 2 shut and you will be looking at a 3.64-inch AMOLED display that packs a resolution of 1066 x 1056 pixels.

At the heart of the Tecno Phantom V Flip 2 is the Mediatek Dimensity 8020 chip, mated to 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage.

In the imaging department, you get a twin 50MP camera setup at the rear, or front when the phone is folded shut. This includes a 50MP main camera with OIS and a 50MP ultrawide shooter. There’s also a 32MP selfie shooter on the inside.

The Phantom V Flip 2 sports a 4,720mAh battery, which can be charged via a USB-C cable at 70W. Tecno says this can charge the phone up to 50% in 15 minutes, and all the way to full in 45 minutes.

Software-wise, the Tecno Phantom V Flip 2 runs on Tecno’s HiOS 14 skin, built atop Android 14.

Although not available in Malaysia, the Tecno Phantom V Flip 2 is priced from USD699 (~RM3,089) internationally.
