Aside from tech brands like Samsung and Honor, Tecno also makes foldable smartphones and in fact, has just launched their second generation of foldables globally in September this year.

While taking part in Tecno’s Future Lens 2024 event in Chongqing China, we also got the chance to take a first look at the flagship model of Tecno’s second generation Phantom foldable series – the Tecno Phantom V Fold 2.

It isn’t coming to Malaysia, but its successor might

We hope you haven’t set your hopes too high as Tecno’s reps have confirmed that the Tecno Phantom V Fold 2, along with the clamshell-style Phantom V Flip 2 won’t be making its way to Malaysia.

The Tecno brand is still relatively new in Malaysia, and the company would prefer to introduce its more premium products only when its brand is more recognised here.

Still, Tecno is considering bringing its future generation of foldable smartphones, expected to be called the Phantom V Fold 3 and Phantom V Flip 3, into the Malaysian market.

However, if you recall, Tecno did bring the first-gen Phantom V Fold into Malaysia back in 2023. At launch, it was retailed at RM5,399.

Tecno Phantom V Fold 2 specs and features

From its looks, it’s clear that the Tecno Phantom V Fold 2 is a book-style foldable phone, similar to the likes of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Honor Magic V3.

In terms of displays, its got a 7.85-inch 120Hz LTPO AMOLED display with a resolution of 2296 x 2000 pixels. Close the Phantom V Fold 2 shut and you will find a 6.42-inch 120Hz LTPO AMOLED cover display with a resolution of 2550 x 1080 pixels.

Powering the foldable smartphone is the MediaTek Dimensity 9400+ chip, paired with 12GB of RAM and 512GB of storage.

In the imaging department, the Tecno Phantom V Fold 2 sports a triple 50MP camera setup at the rear. This includes a 50MP f/1.9 main camera with OIS, a 50MP f/2.0 telephoto camera with 2x optical zoom, and a 50MP f/2.2 ultrawide camera.

As for selfies, you get a 32MP f/2.5 front camera on the inside and a 32MP f/2.5 cover front camera.

The Phantom V Fold 2 gets an IP54 rating, making it dust- and splash-resistant. Enabling the phone to run is a 5,750mAh battery, which can be charged via a USB-C cable at 70W, and a wireless charging pad at 15W.

Software-wise, the Tecno Phantom V Fold 2 runs on the brand’s HiOS 14 Fold skin, which is built atop Android 14. Tecno promises to provide the foldable with 2 years of major Android upgrades.

Although not available in Malaysia, the Tecno Phantom V Fold 2 is priced at USD1,099 (~RM4,857) internationally.
