Asus is reportedly building a more budget-friendly gaming smartphone. Expected to be called the Asus ROG Phone 9 FE, it will be slotted under the recently debuted flagship ROG Phone 9 series which is set to make its Malaysian market launch on the 10th of December 2024, featuring the mighty Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset.
ROG Phone 9 FE to sport the same chipset as last year’s ROG Phone 8 series?
The alleged ROG Phone 9 FE was first spotted in the GSMA database late last month with a model number that’s similar to last year’s ROG Phone 8 series. Now, it has also been reported to have made an appearance on the Wi-Fi Alliance website.
This should mean that its launch will occur sooner rather than later. The phone has been tested while running Android 14. However, we believe that it will ship with Android 15, just like the rest of the ROG Phone 9 series.
Not many specifications regarding the ROG Phone 9 FE have been released, but since it sports a similar model number to the ROG Phone 8 series, one can expect it to feature the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset under its hood.
It should also sport the ROG Phone lineup’s signature exterior lighting as well as cooling solutions. A high refresh rate display can also be expected to enhance the gaming experience with an abundance of RAM and storage to go with it.
ROG Phone 9 FE to be Asus’ first “budget-oriented” gaming phone
While Asus has been making high-end gaming phones for quite a while, the new ROG Phone 9 FE is most probably aimed towards more price-sensitive gaming fans who want a smartphone that’s catered towards gaming but at a more affordable price point.
Still, specifications like the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC are certainly no slouch whatsoever, as it was among the best smartphone chipsets to have been released by Qualcomm last year.
