After unveiling its latest smartphones, the Asus ROG Phone 9 series, to the world, Asus Republic of Gamers (ROG) has announced on social media that it will be launching these smartphones in Malaysia on the 10th of December 2024. Local prices for the smartphones can also be expected to be announced on that date itself.

Globally, the ROG Phone 9 series consists of three models, namely the regular ROG Phone 9, the ROG Phone 9 Pro, as well as the ROG Phone 9 Pro Edition. For context, these smartphones are priced from USD1,000 (~RM4,468) all the way to USD1,500 (~RM6,701) in the US.

Asus ROG Phone 9 series Malaysia specs and features

On the outside, the Asus ROG Phone 9 looks pretty much similar to its predecessor, the ROG Phone 8. However, it does feature some significant upgrades, namely the new and feisty Snapdragon 8 Elite chip. With the top of the top-of-the-line ROG Phone 9 Pro Edition, this chipset is mated to a whopping 24GB of RAM and 1TB of storage.

Asus has also spent efforts in improving the phone’s cooling system to ensure that it can run smoothly even under heavy tasks, despite bearing more horsepower this time around.

To enhance your gaming experience, Asus has also added new AI gaming features to the ROG Phone 9 series for popular titles such as Genshin Impact. This includes among other things, helping you with automatically picking up items, speeding up in-game conversations that you’ve already gone through before, and even helping your character escape from spells.

The AniMe Vision mini-LED matrix display that’s hidden beneath the phone’s back cover has also been enlarged for the ROG Phone 9 Pro and Pro Edition models. You can even play some mini-games using the display, with the AirTrigger capacitive shoulder buttons acting as controls.

But when you want to get down to business, there’s the 6.78-inch Full HD+ AMOLED display up front which now has a higher adaptive refresh rate of up to 185Hz.

On the imaging side of things, you get a tri-camera setup with the ROG Phone 9 series. Opting for the ROG Phone 9 Pro series gets you a 50MP main camera with a 1/1.56″ Sony Lytia 400 sensor and Asus’ new 6-axis Hybrid Gimbal Stabilizer 4.0, a 32MP telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom, and a 13MP ultrawide shooter. The regular ROG Phone 9 on the other hand loses out on the telephoto shooter but gets a 5MP macro camera instead.

In terms of battery, there’s a 5,800mAh cell which supports 65W wired charging via USB-C. 15W wireless charging is also supported.
