Switching from an internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicle to an electric vehicle (EV) can be a daunting decision to make.

For many people, there are several factors to consider before making the jump to full electric. Range, cost of ownership, charging infrastructure, battery reliability, safety and resale value are some of the main concerns that lead to apprehension to adopting EV adoption.

As the leading premium electric vehicle provider in Malaysia, Auto Bavaria see itself playing a key part in advocating for EV confidence to drive the adoption of EVs in the country. A big part in achieving this is having regular EV experiential and education sessions with their customers beyond the showroom.

On Saturday, 16 November, Auto Bavaria in collaboration with SoyaCincau.com, organised the inaugural BMW Electrifying Drive. The event aimed to demystify EV ownership and encourage a seamless transition to sustainable mobility.

Held in Johor with the support from Auto Bavaria Johor Bahru and Auto Bavaria Tebrau, the event saw almost 30 participants and 17 BMW i EV ranging from the BMW i5, iX3, iX2 and iX1, taking part in a comprehensive test drive from Johor Bahru to Desaru and back, covering a total distance of over 150km.

Participants gained firsthand experience of BMW electric vehicles’ performance, range capabilities, and advanced technology from the extensive test drive.

The event was a collaborative effort between Auto Bavaria and SoyaCincau.com, combining the expertise of both organisations to provide a comprehensive and informative experience for participants. EV experts from SoyaCincau.com were on-hand to address questions and concerns about EV ownership.

By organsing such events, Auto Bavaria aims to play a pivotal role in driving EV adoption in Malaysia. The company is committed to educating consumers about the benefits of electric vehicles and dispelling common misconceptions.

With the positive reception of the inaugural BMW Electrifying Drive event, Auto Bavaria plan to organise more such events in other regions in Malaysia further educating and empowering consumers to embrace a fully electrified future.

Key takeaways from the event include:

  • Real-world experience with BMW’s electric vehicles
  • Insightful discussions with EV experts
  • Understanding the range and performance capabilities of EVs
  • Learning about the charging infrastructure and convenience

The Growing EV Landscape in Malaysia

The positive reception of the BMW Electrifying Drive underscores the growing interest in electric vehicles in Malaysia.

From January to October 2024, a total of 17,403 EVs have been registered in Malaysia. In the same period, the BMW is the only premium electric vehicle brand in the top ten with the BMW i5 being the top model.

In comparison, a total of 13,301 EVs were registered in Jan to Dec 2023. To date, BMW reported over 6,400 fully-electric vehicles among the BMW and MINI brands have been introduced to Malaysian roads.
