BYD Sealion 7 to launch in Malaysia on 14 November

BYD Sealion 7 will be launched in Malaysia on 14 November, according to Sime Darby Motors (SDM). This confirmation came just two days after the company opened the order books for the electric SUV in Malaysia.

Saving them for the launch event, SDM did not provide information regarding the Sealion 7 variants that will be released in Malaysia. However, the company did mention the Sealion 7 Performance specs in its announcement on BYD Malaysia’s website.

Hence, we take it as the official nod from SDM that the Performance model is heading to our market. That being said, there is no clear indication whether we are going to get the European version which has a 91.3kWh battery or the Hong Kong version which is fitted with a smaller 82.56kWh battery.

Hence, the range between these Sealion 7 versions is also different since the European unit has 550km of WLTP-rated range while the Hong Kong version offers a slightly lower WLTP-rated range of 500km.

Not only that, the European version of Sealion 7 Performance is based on the e-Platform 3.0 Evo which has 800V architecture and supports DC charging speed of up to 230kW. On the other hand, the Hong Kong version is based on the older, non-Evo e-Platform 3.0 that has 400V architecture which limits its DC charging speed to 150kW.

That being said, the general performance of both Sealion 7 versions is identical as they deliver the same maximum power output of 390kW (523hp) alongside 690Nm of torque and 0-100km/h timing of 4.5 seconds.

Inaugral BYD Sealion 7 test drive event happening on 15 November

Meanwhile, you don’t have to wait long to have hands-on experience with the new electric SUV. Alongside today’s announcement, Sime Darby Motors has also revealed that it will be hosting the Sealion 7 showcase at The Exchange 106, Kuala Lumpur from 15 to 17 November.

You can sign up for the test drive event through BYD Malaysia’s official website. Alternatively, you are also able to check out the new electric SUV at BYD showrooms nationwide on the same weekend.
