BYD Cars Malaysia has confirmed that the BYD Sealion 7 is coming to Malaysia. Described as a performance SUV with premium styling, this is essentially a BYD Seal in a practical SUV body.
BYD has yet to reveal the official launch date and pricing, but interested Malaysian buyers can secure their Sealion 7 by placing a booking online.
BYD Cars Malaysia is now accepting bookings for the BYD Sealion 7 on their website which requires a RM1,000 booking fee. It is stated that the booking fee shall constitute partial payment towards the deposit of the EV.
While there’s no official pricing for Malaysia yet, we reckon that the BYD Sealion 7 could be priced below RM200,000 if BYD decides to bring multiple variants including the single-motor RWD version. In mainland China, the BYD Sealion 7 is priced from CNY 189,800 (about RM116,813) for the base RWD model and up to CNY 239,800 (about RM147,586) for the range-topping AWD model.
To recap, the BYD Sealion 7 is a fully-electric 5-seater SUV and it shares a lot of hardware and design elements with the BYD Seal sedan.
In China, it comes in three variants which include a single motor 170kW (228hp) version with a 71.8kWh battery and a long-range version with a more powerful 230kW (308hp) motor with a larger 80.64kWh battery. There’s also the Performance AWD model with twin motors pushing a combined 390kW (523hp) and it’s also paired to a 80.64kWh battery.
It is worth highlighting that the BYD Sealion 7 EV in China is using the newer 800V-based e-Platform 3.0 Evo architecture which offers a higher DC charging rate of up to 240kW. The BYD Sealion 7 Long Range has a CLTC-rated range of up to 610km on a single charge or up to 550km for the performance AWD and base RWD versions.
