CelcomDigi has noted the government’s selection of mobile network operator (MNO) to carry out the rollout of Malaysia’s second 5G network. On Friday, the MCMC announced the implementation of the second 5G network will go to U Mobile, after a rigorous process encompassing detailed deliberations on technical and commercial aspects.

CelcomDigi believes it presented a compelling second 5G network plan

In a statement, CelcomDigi says they believed to have presented a compelling technical and commercial proposal to build the second 5G network leveraging on their financial standing and track record of investing in and deploying large-scale mobile networks, and delivering affordable, high-quality services to the rakyat.

This included the ability to commence nationwide rollout almost immediately after spectrum award to build a 5G network that will match its 4G and 4G+ network within the shortest time possible.

CelcomDigi to discuss with stakeholders on viable options

CelcomDigi says its priority remains to ensure customers have affordable access to competitive, robust, and efficient 5G network. They will discuss with various stakeholders to consider several viable options ahead of them, to the benefit of their customers and shareholders.

CelcomDigi added that they will continue to focus on their network integration which is now 68% complete and 65% of customers benefit from improved experience on the new CelcomDigi intelligent network ahead of schedule. It added that the latest announcement will have no impact on CelcomDigi’s 5G customers.

The telco said all consumers and enterprise users with 5G devices will be able to access and enjoy 5G services as usual, all day, every day. It emphasised that they will continue delivering the best choice and value in connectivity services and the best customer experience for Malaysian consumer and enterprises through their network, products and services, and digital platforms.

Yesterday, U Mobile issued a statement thanking the Malaysian government for selecting them to build a new 5G network, which will compete with Digital Nasional Berhad. The orange telco also named CelcomDigi among its preferred partners to implement the second 5G network.
