The Snapdragon 8 Elite which succeeds their current Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, is the first Snapdragon Mobile Platform to feature its second-generation Oryon CPU.
With a maximum CPU clock speed of 4.32GHz, Qualcomm says the Snapdragon 8 Elite is the world’s fastest mobile system-on-a-chip ever, which supposedly beats the likes of Apple’s A18 Pro chip which powers the latest iPhone 16 Pro series.
The ARM-based Qualcomm Oryon CPU made its debut on its Snapdragon X PC platform and they are now introducing its second-generation Oryon CPU for its mobile platform. Built on TSMC’s 3nm process, the new Snapdragon 8 Elite features 2x prime cores clocked up to 4.32GHz and 6x performance cores clocked up to 3.53GHz.
It boasts a 45% improvement in Multi-core CPU performance while claiming up to 44% improvement in power efficiency. It also claims to have the mobile industry’s largest shared data cache and supports dual-channel LPDDR5X memory of up to 5.3GHz, with a memory density of up to 24GB.
In the graphics department, the new Adreno GPU with sliced architecture claims to deliver up to 40% improved performance and 40% better power efficiency.
Qualcomm is also taking Generative AI to the next level with the fastest Qualcomm Hexagon NPU with on-device Multimodal gen AI. The new NPU is said to be 45% faster and offers 45% improved performance per watt.
The Snapdragon 8 Elite also offers best-in-class wireless connectivity with a newer Snapdragon X80 5G Modem that supports 5G with up to 10Gbps download and up to 3.5Gbps upload. With its Qualcomm FastConnect 7900 Mobile Connectivity system, it supports WiFi 7 with peak speeds of up to 5.8Gbps, Bluetooth 6.0 and integrated UWB. Qualcomm added that it’s the first platform to integrate WiFi, Bluetooth and UWB for proximity capabilities to help users find lost items and access secure buildings.
The Snapdragon 8 Elite will be making its way to upcoming flagship smartphones from Asus, Honor, iQoo, OnePlus, Oppo, Realme, Samsung, Vivo and Xiaomi very soon. This includes the Honor Magic 7 series, Xiaomi 15 and OnePlus 13 which are set to launch by the end of this month. These devices are likely to make their global debut sometime in early 2025.
