Sime Darby Motors migrates EV chargers to Gentari Go, special rates coming this November

Sime Darby Motors (SDM) has recently moved its EV chargers to Gentari. Both companies have signed a partnership that includes provisions on charging infrastructure back in October 2023.

Prior to this, these chargers had been running on the Go To-U platform since 2022 and customers were informed of the removal through a notification on Go To-U app on 1 October 2024. However, it took several days before the SDM chargers appeared on Gentari Go.

The move has since been confirmed by Auto Bavaria, Hyundai Malaysia, Sime Darby Beyond Auto (BYD) and Sime Darby Auto Selection. At the moment, it appears that the migration only involved DC fast chargers and we noticed during our brief visit to Sime Darby Motors City in Ara Damansara earlier this week that Gentari labels have been implemented on these chargers.

Here are the locations of SDM DC chargers that are now accessible through Gentari Go:

  • Auto Bavaria Ara Damansara: 2 x 90kW – RM1.50 / kWh
  • Auto Bavaria Kuala Lumpur: 2 x 60kW – RM1.50 / kWh
  • Auto Bavaria Penang: 2 x 24kW – RM1.30 / kWh
  • Auto Bavaria Sungai Pinang: 1 x 30kW – RM1.30 / kWh
  • Auto Baharia Johor Bahru: 2 x 90kW – RM1.50 / kWh
  • Auto Bavaria Tebrau: 2 x 90kW – RM1.50 / kWh
  • Auto Selection Glenmarie: 1 x 30kW – RM1.30 / kWh
  • BYD Ara Damansara: 2 x 90kW – RM1.50 / kWh
  • BYD TREC Kuala Lumpur: 2 x 30kW – RM1.30 / kWh
  • BYD Midvalley Southkey: 2 x 90kW – RM1.50 / kWh
  • Hyundai Ara Damansara: 2 x 60kW – RM1.50 / kWh
  • Jaguar Ara Damansara: 2 x 90kW – RM1.50 / kWh

SDM customers can now apply for “special EV charging rates”

Gentari special rate registration on Auto Bavaria’s website.

When these chargers were still under Go To-U, SDM customers were able to utilise them at discounted rates. One such example is Hyundai Ara Damansara whereby it only costs RM0.20 per minute for SDM customers which makes it among the cheapest DC chargers in Malaysia.

This benefit will be applied to Gentari Go too. However, the discounted rates only will be available from 1 November 2024 onwards and neither SDM nor Gentari have revealed the so-called “special EV charging rates”.

SDM chargers are labelled as “Sime Darby” on Gentari Go. You can see the Volvo Ara Damansara charger is labelled as Gentari instead of Sime Darby despite the showroom being operated by Sime Darby Swedish Auto.

Do note that the upcoming special charging rates do not apply to certain SDM locations even though they may have Gentari-branded DC chargers. Among such locations that we are aware of include Volvo Ara Damansara and Auto Selection Chan Sow Lin.

To make things simple, just visit the locations that we listed above once you can utilise SDM’s discounted rate. To apply for the privilege, SDM customers can fill up these application forms according to their respective EV brands:

If you have obtained your EV through Auto Selection, this form is for you. For Jaguar i-Pace owners, you may want to reach out to Jaguar Ara Damansara for further information.
