Back in August this year, it was reported that Nothing was developing a new earbud model which was then known as the “Nothing Ear Open”. Now, what appear to be official images of the earbuds, which are now called the Nothing Ear (Open), have been leaked online, just hours prior to its scheduled official launch, which is set to happen on the 24th of September 2024 at 6:30 PM (Malaysian time).
As its name suggests, the Nothing Ear (Open) is a pair of open-style true wireless earbuds. This makes it a good option for those who prefer listening to music while still being able to hear what’s going on around them. This concept certainly isn’t new though, with products such as the first-gen Google Pixel Buds and the Sony LinkBuds having adopted them earlier.
What will certainly separate the Nothing Ear (Open) from other open-style wireless earbuds is its semi-transparent design, which is a trademark of Nothing. It also sports a large wraparound band to keep the earbuds intact by wrapping them around the back of your ears.
The Nothing Ear (Open) is reported to come with 14.2mm drivers made of titanium-coated polyethene terephthalate on each of its earbuds. It is also said to be included with the brand’s “Bass Enhance” algorithm. Both earbuds are said to weigh 8.1g each and come with 64mAh batteries.
Its charging case on the other hand is long, thin, and features an oblong shape, together with a 635mAh battery. This allows the Nothing Ear (Open) to offer 8 hours of battery life with the earbuds alone, and up to 30 hours with the charging case. This is slightly shorter than what the regular Nothing Ear offers.
To control the Nothing Ear (Open), there are capacitive touchpads located on the outside of the earbuds. As for connectivity, it’s enabled by Bluetooth 5.3, with dual connectivity being said as possible as well.
Also, the Nothing Ear (Open) as well as its case is reported to be IP54-rated for dust and splash resistance. The earbuds are said to come with ChatGPT support when paired with a Nothing Phone.
Based on the leak photos, the Nothing Ear (Open) seems to be offered in just a single white colour option. We wonder if a black version will also be available upon launch. No official price has been announced just yet, and it’s not known when the Ear (Open) will make its launch in Malaysia either.
At the time of writing, Nothing’s current true wireless earbuds lineup consists of the Nothing Ear and Ear (a). Retailed at RM659 and RM479 in Malaysia respectively, both earbuds feature active noise cancellation (ANC).
