Back in July, Xiaomi launched two new foldables including the Xiaomi Mix Flip. You can’t get your hands on it in Malaysia at the moment but that may change very soon after Xiaomi’s CEO Lei Jun announced on X that the Mix Flip will be heading to the global market starting this month.
Xiaomi Mix Flip quick specs
While Xiaomi has produced 4 generations of Mix Fold so far, the Mix Flip is the company’s first clamshell-style foldable device. One of the device’s most impressive features is surely the 4.01-inch edge-to-edge cover screen which is much larger than what other flip smartphones out there are able to offer.
The AMOLED cover screen also has a pixel density of 460ppi alongside a 120Hz refresh rate and a peak brightness of 3,000 nits. It can support over 200 apps and can display a full-sized keyboard alongside a collection of dynamic lock screens.
Inside, the Mix Flip has been equipped with a 6.86-inch AMOLED main display that has a native resolution of 1.5K and peak brightness level that can also go as high as 3000 nits. Being an LTPO display, its refresh rate can dynamically go between 1Hz to 120Hz depending on the application.
Co-engineered with Leica, the primary camera on Mix Flip is equipped with a 50MP Light Fusion sensor and f/1.7 Summilux lens with optical image stabilisation. The device has also been fitted with a 50MP telephoto camera with 2x optical zoom capability. While you can certainly use the dual 50MP cameras for selfies, there is also still another 32MP selfie camera that is located on the top part of the main display.
In terms of pure performance, the Mix Flip is considered to be on par with Xiaomi 14. This is because the new foldable device also features a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, LPDDRX5 RAM, and UFS 4.0-based internal storage.
Despite having a thickness of just 7.8mm when unfolded, Xiaomi has managed to fit a 3D vapour chamber into Mix Flip to improve heat dissipation. Not only that, the company has also adapted the “aerogel” thermal insulation material from the Xiaomi SU7 EV into its new flip phone to stop heat from going to the display area.
Powering the new Mix Flip is a 4,780mAh battery which supports fast charging speed of up to 67W. This allows the phone to be fully charged in 42 minutes although it does not support wireless charging.
When will Mix Flip arrive in Malaysia?
Based on our brief time with the device, the Mix Flip felt pretty solid and it has the potential to become one of the best flip phones on the market. While you might feel excited by Lei Jun’s announcement, the CEO did not reveal the exact rollout timing for the device though.
Hence, we still don’t know when exactly Xiaomi will release Mix Flip in Malaysia. If the device is really coming to Malaysia, the release will probably take place in the next few months since Xiaomi Malaysia is currently occupied with the new Xiaomi 14T Series which has just been made available for pre-order in our market.
