While EVs might be relatively new in Malaysia, the market is already vibrant enough that several EV-specific services have begun to pop up in our market. One such example is mobile EV charging with Power Up Tech (P.UP) being the latest company to offer such a service in our market.

Hailing from Singapore, the company has recently expanded into Malaysia by announcing the service’s availability in Penang. P.UP has partnered with Nazamax for its operation in Malaysia.

For now, P.UP services are only available within Penang Island. That being said, Nazamax is already looking to expand the service to Klang Valley and Johor Bahru in the next few months.

P.UP mobile EV chargers in Penang can charge at up to 50kW

Over in Penang, P.UP currently operates two mobile DC chargers. According to the company’s representative, these “powerbanks on wheels” offer a maximum charging speed of 50kW although they can only cater for EVs with a CCS2 charging port (sorry, Nissan Leaf).

In terms of pricing, it costs RM1.70 per kWh while there is also a service fee of RM40 and customers also have to bear the parking fee if applicable. Do note that P.UP will only charge your EV up to 80% as charging the remaining 20% would take up additional time due to the EV charging curve.

You can have your EV cleaned while charging

Now, what is interesting about P.UP is that the outfit also offers a car grooming service. This way, your EV will not only be ready for the road again once P.UP is done charging it but it will also be squeaky clean.

If you choose to have your car groomed by P.UP while charging, the service fee is slightly lower at RM30 although the charging fee remains the same at RM1.70 per kWh. In terms of fee, the tyre shine option costs RM10 while vacuum and hand wash are priced at RM15 and RM20, respectively.

P.UP Malaysia also offers subscription plans

Meanwhile, P.UP also offers subscription options in which you get a certain amount of charge & groom sessions per month for a set monthly fee. The fee does not include the RM10 vacuum fee per session and any parking chargers.

The monthly fee for the P.UP Malaysia subscription plan depends on the battery capacity of your EV and the amount of charge & groom sessions that you want to have per month. Here’s the pricing structure, according to P.UP Malaysia’s website:

The subscription plan does not come with any contract which means customers can cancel the plan at any time. P.UP Malaysia has also created a special subscription package for Cycle & Carriage Malaysia customers who purchase Mercedes-Benz EQ models.

P.UP Malaysia app will be available in October

At the moment, P.UP service in Penang can only be booked manually by reaching out to 013-2139380 via phone call or WhatsApp message. In addition to that, the company only accepts payments through the QR method for the time being.

However, things will change once the P.UP Malaysia app is ready to serve customers. Expected to be available sometime next month, customers will not only be able to book and pay for the service through the app but also monitor P.UP’s mobile charger whereabouts and charging status.
