BYD Seal Dynamic: Malaysia’s cheapest electric sedan at RM164k

Sime Darby Motors has officially unveiled a new variant for the BYD Seal which is called the BYD Seal Dynamic. The new option essentially helped reduce the price barrier for the BYD Seal family in our market and in addition to that, the Seal Dynamic is also now the cheapest electric sedan in our market.

BYD Seal Dynamic Malaysian pricing, colourways

Here is the price list for the BYD Seal family in Malaysia

  • BYD Seal Dynamic RWD= RM163,800
  • BYD Seal Premium RWD = RM179,800
  • BYD Seal Performance AWD = RM199,800

However, the pricing above is just for the vehicle alone. Once you consider the additional fees such as registration, ownership endorsement, base plate, and inspection, here is the on-the-road pricing for BYD Seal not inclusive of insurance:

  • BYD Seal Dynamic RWD= RM164,430
  • BYD Seal Premium RWD = RM180,430
  • BYD Seal Performance AWD = RM200,430

In terms of colourways, the Seal Dynamic has only two options which include Cosmos Black and Aurora White.

BYD Seal Dynamic quick specs, road tax fee

One of the main factors that separates the Seal Dynamic from the Premium and Performance variants is its power output. While it still has a rear-wheel drive (RWD) setup, this variant has a much lower output of 150kW (201hp) alongside 310Nm of torque. – similar to the Extended Range models of BYD Atto 3 and Dolphin.

As a comparison, the Seal Premium has a 230kW (309hp) motor that also produces 360Nm of torque. The Seal Performance comes with two motors which have a total output of 390kW (523hp) alongside a maximum torque of 670Nm.

With a lower power output, this also means the EV road tax for Seal Dynamic will be lower. In fact, it is significantly cheaper as you can see below:

  • BYD Seal Dynamic RWD (150kW) = RM160
  • BYD Seal Premium RWD (230kW) = RM335
  • BYD Seal Performance AWD (390kW) = RM965

The Seal Dynamic also has a battery capacity of 61.44kWh which is much lower than the Premium and Performance models that were equipped with an 82.56kWh battery pack. This is why the Dynamic variant has the lowest WLTP-rated range in the Seal family at 460km.

The DC charging speed for the Seal Dynamic is also limited to 110kW, unlike Dynamic and Performance options which can go as high as 150kW. When it comes to AC charging, the base model still features a 7kW AC onboard charger just like the two other variants.

At a glance, it might be hard to differentiate the Seal Dynamic from its high-end sibling. The simplest way to identify it is by looking at the wheels.

The Seal Dynamic is equipped with 18-inch wheels which have a different design than the 19-inch wheels on Seal Premium and Performance. They were also fitted with Giti GitiComfort 225 V1 225/50 R18 tyres instead of the Continental EcoContact 6Q 235/45 R19  tyres that were on the Premium RWD and Performance AWD variants.
