Zeekr has been teasing its imminent arrival in Malaysia since a few months ago and was supposed to debut at EVX 2024 although it didn’t materialise for unknown reasons. Now, it seems that the Geely subsidiary will only be making its official Malaysian debut in late September or early October.
Zeekr Malaysia’s tentative launch timeline
The new launch date was based on several screenshots shared by Xen Xen, one of the administrators of the Malaysia EV Owners Club’s (MyEVOC) Facebook group. He has previously shared a screenshot that revealed the estimated pricing for XPeng G6 before the SUV’s launch event, so the information coming from Xen Xen likely has some weight on it.
One of the screenshots claimed that Zeekr Malaysia would be setting up a pop-up store at an unknown location in late September. It will then be followed by a launch event sometime in early October and the first batch of Zeekr X will be meeting Malaysian customers a month later.
As noted in our previous report, Zeekr has appointed Sentinel Automotive as its local partner. While the company might be new, it is essentially under the same outfit that is responsible for Lotus in Malaysia.
Zeekr X may arrive in Malaysia with single and dual-motor options
Meanwhile, another screenshot has listed the tentative specifications for Zeekr X variants that will be released in Malaysia. One of them is called Zeekr X Standard which features a single 201kW (270hp) electric motor that also produces 340Nm of torque.
This allows the EV to sprint from 0 to 100km/h in 5.6 seconds. Said to be able to deliver up to 440km of range, the Standard variant will also feature 18-inch wheels and a 7-speaker sound system.
On the other hand, there’s also the dual motor option which is referred to as the Zeekr X Flagship in the screenshot. Equipped with two motors, this variant has a total output of 313kW (420hp) and can deliver 540Nm of maximum torque.
Since this variant has more power than its Standard counterpart, it can accelerate from 0-100km/h even faster at just 3.8 seconds. The Zeekr X Flagship will also come with ambient lighting, a head-up display (HUD), a Yamaha 13-speaker sound system, and 19-inch wheels.
Regardless of the variant that the customer prefers, both Zeekr X options will be able to support DC charging speed of up to 150kW. However, the screenshot said they will come with an 11kw AC onboard charger (OBC) as opposed to the 22kW OBC that was fitted to Zeekr X in Europe.
That being said, the screenshot also noted that these specifications will only be considered official once the finalised Zeekr X brochure for Malaysia has been published. So, let’s hope that Zeekr will consider fitting 22kW OBC into the Malaysian unit.
