If you’re looking for a faster EV charger at Mid Valley Megamall and The Gardens Mall, Gentari has finally activated their DC chargers at the two locations. First spotted a year ago, the two 50kW DC Chargers are now available but they have been relocated to a different floor from the existing AC charge points.
50kW DC Charger with CCS2 and CHAdeMO
The DC chargers installed at both malls are ABB Terra 54 units which are capable of delivering up to 50kW and it has three nozzles – AC Type-2, CCS2 and CHAdeMO. However, the AC nozzle is currently disabled making the charger strictly for DC charging only.
With the CHAdeMO port, drivers of Japan-imported EVs and legacy models such as the Nissan Leaf will be able to charge their vehicles here. While 50kW doesn’t sound that much, the lower charging rate is ideal for shopping malls as it provides EV owners ample time to run errands or have a quick lunch.
The only issue is that there’s only one DC charge point at each location, which reduces the probability of an available charger when you need it during peak hours. Gentari has yet to introduce any idle fees but all EV users are advised to remove their vehicles immediately once charging is completed so that others can use the facility.
These DC chargers are also enabled for JomCharge’s AutoCharge feature which allows select vehicles like the Chery Omoda E5 to activate and pay for charging without using any cards or apps. If your EV has been enrolled for the AutoCharge system, you can just simply plug it in and it will charge automatically.
These EV chargers can be activated via Gentari Go, JomCharge, Setel and ChargEV apps.
50kW DC Charger at Mid Valley Mega Mall
The 50kW DC charger at Mid Valley Megamall is priced at RM1.50 per kWh, or RM0.75 per kWh if you have an annual Gentari Go membership. Unlike the AC charge points which are located at Zone A, Level P2 (Pillar A43), this 50kW DC Charger is located at Zone A, Level P1 (Pillar A13).
So if you intend to use this charger, just look for Mid Valley’s Zone A parking entrance and then go to Level P1.
50kW DC Charger at The Gardens Mall
The 50kW DC Charger at The Gardens Mall is also priced at RM1.50 per kWh, or RM0.75 per kWh with Gentari Go’s annual membership. It is located at the Garden’s Mall Zone B, Level P1 (Pillar B30A) which is on the Isetan side of the mall.
If you’re not in a hurry, the two AC charge points at located at Zone B, Level P2 (Pillar B60A).
