Ahead of SUKMA 2024, ZTE along with two telcos – CelcomDigi and U Mobile, have claimed to set a new world record for the fastest mobile speed ever. Using 5G-Advanced (5G-A) technology, they conducted a speed test on a live trial network in Kuching, Sarawak which recorded 30.8Gbps, and it’s claimed to be the world’s fastest.
From the live trial, it is said that individual users can experience speeds of up to 8.5Gbps. The latest 5G-A Live speed test record has been recognised by the Malaysia Book of Records and it has also beaten ZTE’s previous record conducted in partnership with Digital Nasional Berhad and TM.
The latest record achievement was conducted as part of their showcase to demonstrate the capabilities of 5G-A technology for both consumers and enterprises. The upcoming SUKMA 2024 is set to be Malaysia’s first live event to be broadcast using 5G-A.
According to the joint press release, viewers across the nation will be able to watch the opening ceremony broadcasted through Radio Televisyen Malaysia and viewers will be able to enjoy a dynamic and immersive experience as the broadcast will consist of high-resolution streams with minimal delay. It added that it will be the first time where RTM will be able to capture the best footage all via a wireless ecosystem which will offer them more flexibility and the ability to do real-time coverage.
Commenting on the record, CelcomDigi CEO Datuk Idham Nawawi said, “This achievement reflects the importance of industry collaboration and partnerships, especially in realising the potentials of 5G and 5G-A. We continue to execute our multi-partner strategy of bringing together the best technologies from the East and West to deliver the best experiences to Malaysians, and enable the nation’s transformation into a 5G-AI powered digital society. We achieved a milestone today and will continue to focus on leading the development and deployment at scale.”
Meanwhile, U Mobile CEO Wong Heang Tuck said, “As part of U Mobile’s quest to be Malaysia’s favourite digital services partner, we are constantly innovating and looking to push the boundaries of technology. We are proud to achieve this record-breaking 5G-Advanced accomplishment of 30.8Gbps with our industry partner CelcomDigi and technology partner ZTE as it showcases the possibilities of what 5G-A can do for enterprise solutions across various verticals.”
ZTE Malaysia CEO Steven Ge said, “ZTE’s dedication to innovation is reflected through our 5G and 5G-A use cases, where, together with our partners, CelcomDigi and U Mobile, we achieve milestone performances. We are excited to bring more exciting use cases as we tailor our solutions to meet the unique demands of Malaysia’s 5G strategy and beyond.”
The public will be able to experience 5G-A enhanced XR at the CelcomDigi, U Mobile and ZTE 5G-A Pavilion located outside Stadium Sarawak. The 5G-A application utilises 360-degree cameras installed at various locations inside the stadium and visitors can immerse themselves through a pair of VR goggles.
In May 2024, ZTE received recognition from the Malaysia Book of Records for setting the fastest 5.5G live trial record which achieved a 28Gbps downlink. The 5G-A achievement was first attempted in October 2023 and it was described as the world’s fastest mmWave 5G trial. The setup uses ZTE’s mmWave Active Antenna Unit (AAU) and it is said to deliver Malaysia’s first standalone 5G core.
A few months ago, e& UAE claimed to set a world fastest speed of 30.5Gbps on its live 5G network. The achievement was announced during the SAMENA Leader’s Summit 2024 and it uses an aggregation of multiple carriers across high-band and mid-band spectrums with 1600MHz in mmWave and 300MHz in C-Band.
