Proton is finally ready to show off the latest iteration of the Proton X70 SUV which was first launched in 2018. Officially called the 2025 Proton X70, the facelift model primarily carries aesthetic and tech changes.
Nevertheless, Proton said that there are 360 new parts in the 2025 X70. The company also said that it went through 290,000 manhours of R&D and testing in addition to 4.2 million km of road testing during the development of the facelifted X70.
2025 Proton X70 no longer offers AWD option, 1.8L engine
With the new 2025 model, Proton has trimmed down the variants from six to four as the company took out the Executive AWD and 1.8 Premium 2WD options. Hence, the 2025 X70 can now be obtained in the form of Standard, Executive, Premium and Premium X.
In terms of powertrain, Proton still maintained the same 1.5L turbocharged TGDi three-cylinder engine from the previous X70 iteration which can deliver 174hp (130kW) alongside 255Nm of maximum torque. The 2025 model also still carries a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCT) and has a fuel consumption of 7.3L per 100km which Proton said is around 4% improvement over the older model.
In terms of colourway, the arrival of the 2025 X70 also marked the addition of Marine Blue to the list. Previous colours such as Ruby Red, Snow White, Armour Silver, and Jet Grey are also available for the facelift model.
2025 X70 carries updated front and rear exterior
You can tell almost immediately that the exterior of the 2025 X70 looked slightly different than its predecessor. For one, the front grille has received a makeover and now has the songket-inspired Infinite Weave which was previously implemented on the Proton X90 and Proton S70.
Accompanying the new grille is a pair of slimmer full-LED headlamps as well as a new front bumper and hood. Proton has also changed the rear bumper to help give the 2025 X70 a wider stance although no changes were made to its taillights.
Proton has also provided the 2025 model with new designs for its alloy wheels. This includes a two-tone finish for the Executive, Premium, and Premium X variants.
2025 X70 also covers interior changes and updated tech features
Inside the car, the changes that Proton has done for the 2025 X70 are also aplenty.
For techies, it is hard to miss the new floating-style 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen. Running on the Atlas 2.0 operating system, Proton said that the infotainment head unit (IHU) is powered by a processor with a dual quad-core processing unit alongside 4GB of RAM and 32GB internal storage.
Of course, the more important point is that the infotainment system supports Android Auto and Apple CarPlay (AA – the first in the Proton lineup to come with this feature. That being said, we were told during the media preview event that this feature will be delivered through an Over-The-Air (OTA) update post-launch.
The 2025 X70 also supports the Proton Link mobile app that allows users to start the SUV’s engine, adjust air-conditioning settings, and unlock the doors remotely. Similar to the older version of X70, users can still use the “Hi Proton” voice command to control certain IHU functionalities, windows, and air-conditioning.
Speaking about tech features, the 2025 X70 now has an Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) that comes with Level 2 driving autonomous capabilities including Intelligent Cruise Control and the addition of a Stop & Go feature to the SUV’s Adaptive Cruise Control.
The 2025 model also has Lane Centring Control and Lane Departure Prevention on top of the Lane Departure Warning that already existed in its predecessor. Other features that also come with the ADAS in the 2025 X70 include Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Rear Collision Warning, and Traffic Sign Information.
Meanwhile, the dashboard has also received some updates including Piano Black finishing on the front passenger side. There is also a new digital instrument display together with a slightly redesigned steering wheel.
For those who considering getting their hands on the Premium or Premium X variants, they will get the new decoration on the passenger side of the dashboard which features a 72-colour rhythmic ambient light setup which can be set to follow the beat of music. In addition to that, they will get Nappa leather seats in Stone Grey while the ADAS that we mentioned earlier are also exclusive to these variants.
The pricing of 2025 Proton X70 is still under wraps
Even though you can now see what the car looks like in its full glory and learn about its features as well as technical specifications, one major piece of the puzzle is still missing which is the pricing.
