Google has officially revealed two of its upcoming smartphones, the Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro Fold ahead of their official launch in August. The revelation has confirmed changes to Pixel smartphone design elements that we have seen in leaks for the past few months.
New design for the camera module
One such change is the redesigned camera module on the Pixel 9 Pro. Unlike the Pixel 8 series devices, the module no longer comes in a bar form that covers the whole width of the phone.
Instead, it now comes in an oval-shaped island although it is quite protruding. In fact, the module is much thicker than the one on Pixel 8 Pro.
Meanwhile, the bar design is also absent from the Pixel 9 Pro Fold. Instead, the shape of the rear camera module is now closer to a squircle and features two rows of camera lenses.
Pixel 9 series only has two phones?
Interestingly enough, Google only announced two devices under the Pixel 9 series. As a comparison, the Pixel 8 series has three models altogether including the titular name itself, Pixel 8 Pro, and Pixel 8a.
According to the regulatory filing in Taiwan, there are supposed to be four Pixel 9 models in total. The documentation from the filing has listed the standard Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro XL alongside the Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro Fold.
Will they come to Malaysia?
Here comes the question that many smartphones and tech enthusiasts have been asking for quite some time: will Google officially launch Pixel products in Malaysia?
Unfortunately, there is still no concrete answer to this question. So far, the status quo has not yet changed as Malaysia has not yet been listed as one of the official markets when you visit the online Google Store.
At this juncture, Singapore remained the only official Google Pixel market in Southeast Asia and customers over there were already able to register their interest for the new Pixel 9 Pro models. Google is also offering an unspecified limited edition collectable for early adopters of Pixel 9 Pro devices in Singapore.
Meanwhile, Google will be making further announcements about its new Pixel 9 devices through a special event at Mountain View that is scheduled to take place on 14 August at 1:00 AM Malaysian time. So, stay tuned.
