Xiaomi is unveiling several new products this Friday evening where its CEO Lei Jun will talk more about the company’s Electric Vehicle (EV) journey. When it comes to Xiaomi flagship devices, the company will unveil the MIX Flip, the company’s first-ever flip smartphone that takes on the likes of the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip series and the Oppo Find N3 Flip.

Ahead of the launch event, Xiaomi has revealed several key features of the device including the processor and its impressive cover display.

One of the major highlights of the MIX Flip is the massive cover display which covers edge to edge with cutouts for the dual-camera. This implementation offers a larger viewing experience and it is even big enough to feature what appears to be a full-sized mobile keyboard. Essentially, the typing experience should be similar to typing on the main display when unfolded. Xiaomi has also shown off a cute animated Capybara as one of its dynamic live cover wallpaper.

Being a flagship for 2024, Xiaomi says the Xiaomi MIX Flip will carry over the same performance components as the Xiaomi 14 smartphone. This includes Qualcomm’s current top-of-the-line Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, LPDDR5X RAM and UFS 4.0 storage. They have also mentioned that the flip phone will get a 3D vapour chamber to ensure improved heat dissipation despite having a slim form factor.

Based on the photos shared on Weibo, the MIX Flip will come in four colours – Black, White, Purple and a chequered purple variant. Similar to the Galaxy Z Flip 6, the MIX Flip has flat edges which gives it a more industrial look.

The device also gets Leica cameras with Summilux optics and it is powered by a large 4,780mAh battery.

Besides the MIX Flip, Xiaomi is also launching the MIX Fold 4, its fourth-generation large-screen foldable smartphone. According to Xiaomi’s teasers, this would be their thinnest and lightest MIX Fold yet at just 9.47mm thin (unfolded) and weighs just 226g.

It isn’t as slim as the Honor Magic V3, but, remarkably, it offers a Leica Summilux quad-camera setup with a 5x periscope telephoto lens. The MIX Fold 4 also gets 50W wireless charging, two-way satellite communication and it is also IPX8-rated for water resistance. So far the MIX Fold series has always been exclusive to China and it would be interesting to see if the brand would expand their latest foldable lineup for the global market.

The Lei Jun Annual Speech 2024 event is taking place on 19th July (Friday) at 7:00pm (Malaysian Time). You can watch the stream live on Leijun’s X account.
