DC Handal has recently deployed 200kW DC fast chargers at Menara Matrade in Kuala Lumpur. These are not only one of the fastest chargers around Jalan Duta and Dutamas KL area, but also probably one of the cheapest ultra-fast DC chargers with kWh-based pricing.
Similar to other DC Handal EV charging sites, these chargers can support contactless card payments, allowing EV owners to activate and pay for charging without using any apps.
DC Handal’s latest 200kW DC Charger in Kuala Lumpur
The new DC Handal EV charging location with a total of 4 bays is placed by the curbside in front of the CIC pre-school. It is located within the MATRADE compound, facing the West Wing entrance. The area is gated and you can inform the guardhouse that you’re entering to charge your EV.
For this location, DC Handal has deployed a standalone 200kW Kempower DC charger and a 200kW Autel MaxiCharger DC. Both are configured for dynamic power sharing with two CCS2 nozzles each. The chargers are placed in an illuminated bus stand-like structure and it has a bench seat. According to the screen of the Kempower unit, the charger can push up to 200kW for 800V-based EVs or up to 120kW for 400V-based EVs.
These DC chargers cost RM1.30 per kWh which is cheaper than most DC chargers with ultra-high power output. As a comparison, other DC Handal EV charging sites with similar power output are priced at RM1.50 per kWh. Meanwhile, the nearby ChargEV’s 50kW DC charger at Publika Shopping Centre costs RM1.20 per kWh but you’ll have to pay RM15 for valet fees.
Despite having a curbside parking setup, the charging cables are long enough to reach the charging port if it is located on the driver’s side of the EV. To activate the charger, you can just tap on the card terminal, select the nozzle number and then tap using your credit, debit or prepaid card to start charging. You can stop the charging manually by using the same card on the card terminal. Alternatively, you can also activate the charger via an app such as ChargEV and JomCharge.
At the time of writing, we noticed that the pre-authorisation value for card payment is set at RM1, which is lower than the usual RM50 amount for other DC Handal sites.
With a maximum output of 200kW per nozzle, we managed to charge a Kia EV6 from 55% to 80% in just 9 minutes, with a peak rate of 190kW until 63%. The quick charging session with 21.59kWh energy consumed costs approximately RM28. Do note that the charging speed depends on the EV’s maximum supported DC charging rate and the battery’s state of charge.
