Shell Recharge has a reputation among EV users in Malaysia as the most expensive Charge Point Operator (CPO) in the country. This is not so much because of their charging fee but mainly due to its confirmation fee policy although things are set to change later this month.
Shell Recharge has announced that it will begin to waive the confirmation fee starting from next Monday, 15 July. In order to obtain the confirmation fee waiver, users have to claim their EV charging bay within 10 minutes of booking the bay through the ParkEasy app.
Shell Recharge confirmation fee is a double-edged sword
For those who are not familiar with Shell Recharge’s operation in Malaysia, you have to pay a confirmation fee on top of the charging fee when they use a Shell Recharge EV charger. This applies to both AC and DC chargers.
The confirmation fee for most Shell Recharge chargers is RM5 with the exception of its charging hub in Genting Highlands. Over there, the fee is RM10 for the 360kW DC charger and slightly lower at RM8 for AC chargers.
Hence, many see the confirmation fee as an added cost to utilise a Shell Recharge charger. Since some of the Shell Recharge chargers are located inside shopping malls, some users would also argue why they have to pay the confirmation fee when they already have to pay a parking fee.
That being said, Shell Recharge has automated parking barriers in most locations and you can reserve the charging bay for up to 1 hour in advance. Of course, you have to pay the confirmation fee once again to open up the barrier if you arrive late.
Shell Recharge Malaysia charging fee

As noted, you have to use the ParkEasy app in order to activate Shell Recharge chargers in Malaysia. You may have stumbled upon the Shell Recharge Asia mobile app in the Google Play Store and iOS App Store but you would not see any chargers
