After its imminent arrival in our market was subtly hinted since Malaysia Autoshow two months ago, the Mini Cooper SE 2024 electric hatch is now officially in Malaysia. The new model joined three other vehicles including Mini Countryman SE All4 as well as the ICE-based Mini Cooper S and Mini Countryman John Cooper Works All4 to become the latest Mini offerings for our market.
Mini Cooper SE 2024 Malaysia price, colourways
Also known as the Mini Electric, only the higher-end Mini Cooper SE is available in Malaysia at the moment. Price-wise, it can be obtained for RM193,888.
As a comparison, the previous generation Mini Electric was priced at RM193,833. So, that is just a difference of RM55 although the gap is much larger when compared to the Mini Electric Resolute Edition which was priced at RM205,833.
You can get the new electric hatch in a variety of exterior colours including Blazing Blue, Nanuq White, Chili Red II, Legend Grey, Sunny Side Yellow, Midnight Black II, British Racing Green and Melting Silver. The interior area is mainly draped in the synthetic Vescin leather in the Nightshade Blue colourway.
Mini Cooper SE 2024 Malaysia quick specs
Developed through a collaboration between BMW and Great Wall Motor (GWM), the Mini Electric 2024 not only offers an all-new interior and exterior design but also a whole lot more range than its predecessor.
Specifically, the new model can deliver a WLTP-rated range of 402km as opposed to the older model which was limited to 234km. This is thanks to the inclusion of a much larger 54.2kWh NCM battery pack.
In addition to that, the 2024 Mini Electric has a lot more firepower as well. The new model carries a 160kW (215hp) electric motor that also produces 330Nm of torque as opposed to its predecessor which has a 135kW (181hp) motor with a peak torque of 270Nm.
With a top speed of 170km/h, the beefier motor also helped the 2024 model to accelerate quicker from 0 to 100km/h at 6.7 seconds. As a comparison, the previous generation Mini Electric takes around 7.3 seconds to go from 0 to 100km/h.
While the new model continues to feature an 11kW AC onboard charger, the 2024 Mini Electric can support a DC charging speed of up to 95kW, unlike its predecessor which maxed out at 50kW. This allows the EV to be charged from 10% to 80% in under 30 minutes via DC charging.
