Besides the Galaxy Z Fold 6, Samsung has also unveiled its new Galaxy Z Flip 6. Between the two foldable devices, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6 has more significant hardware upgrades plus additional features powered by Galaxy AI.
The Z Flip gets incremental upgrades and refinements
Last year’s Galaxy Z Flip 5 was quite a major upgrade as Samsung increased the cover display from a tiny 1.9″ to a larger 3.4″. You can even watch YouTube videos and play Genshin Impact on it.
For 2024, it seems that Samsung is focusing on making further refinements to an already impressively good clamshell smartphone. Similar to its latest flagships, the Galaxy Z Flip 6 get a more industrial look with flat and sharp edges.
The cover display is still a 3.4″ 60Hz Super AMOLED panel that pushes a resolution of 720×748 pixels. Meanwhile, the inside gets a 6.7″ 120Hz Full HD+ Infinity Flex AMOLED screen that comes in a tall 22:9 aspect ratio.
Finally, the main camera has been upgraded to a higher resolution 50MP sensor which supposedly offer 2x optical quality zoom. Also retained is a 12MP ultra-wide-angle shooter and it still lacks a telephoto camera. You can tell that this is the Galaxy Z Flip 6 by spotting the protruding body colour matching dual camera rings on the cover. There’s also a 10MP selfie camera that sits in a punch-hole for the internal screen.
Under the hood, it runs on a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy, and for the first time for the Z Flip, it is equipped with a vapour chamber to help dissipate heat effectively. Samsung has also increased the RAM from 8GB to 12GB. Similar to its predecessor, the device can be yours with either 256GB or 512GB of storage.
Another welcome upgrade is a larger battery that’s bumped from 3,700mAh to 4,000mAh capacity. It’s not as generous as other rivals, but it’s still an improvement nonetheless. Unfortunately, there’s no change in charging speed so you’ll have to settle for 25W fast charging via USB-C or 15W for wireless charging.
New Galaxy Z Flip experiences with Galaxy AI
If it isn’t obvious enough, Samsung is making Generative AI powered by Google Gemini as their killer feature this year. Besides helping you to compose messages, perform live translations and removing unwanted objects from your photos, the Galaxy Z Flip 6 uses Galaxy AI to help you take better hands-free selfie photos.
If you’re taking a selfie while in flex mode, the AI Zoom feature will automatically keep you in frame and switches between the main and ultra-wide-angle cameras if necessary. It is kinda like Apple’s Centre Stage feature but for static photos.
Similar to the Galaxy Z Fold 6, there’s also a dual-screen live translation feature where the other party can read your phrases in their local language through the cover display. At the same time, you can read the translation of their responses on the internal screen. You also get to enjoy other Galaxy AI features which are still free to use at the moment.
