DC Handal has activated yet another EV charging station at the West Coast Expressway (WCE). Located at the Trong Toll Plaza, the new station can deliver DC charging speed of up to 400kW, making it one of the fastest EV charging stations in Malaysia.
DC Handal WCE Trong has a similar setup as Taiping Selatan
Based on its PlugShare listing, the new WCE Trong Toll Plaza charger follows the same configurations as per DC Handal’s previous installation at WCE Taiping Selatan Toll Plaza Southbound. Specifically, the new location features a Kempower Satellite Charging System used in most DC Handal locations.
Just like in Taiping Selatan, there are four charging satellites at Trong with one of them being a liquid-cooled model. All four charging satellites can deliver a DC charging speed of up to 400kW for EVs with 800V architecture while the speed is capped at 200kW for EVs with 400V architecture.
As noted in the previous report, you have to utilise the liquid-cooled satellite to obtain sustained high-speed charging. This is because the non-liquid cooled charging satellites can only sustain the peak 500A current rating for 10 minutes as per what Kempower has said in its spec sheet.
Aside from Trong and Taiping Selatan, DC Handal has also deployed a DC charger at Assam Jawa Toll Plaza which is the first EV charger in WCE. The charger can deliver a DC charging speed of up to 220kW for EVs with 800V architecture while EVs with 400V architecture can be charged with a speed of up to 120kW.
400kW EV charger is not just about speed
There are no EVs in Malaysia that can support a DC charging speed of 400kW. While you can buy EVs with 800V architecture in Malaysia, they are not able to support such a high DC charging speed.
For example, Porsche Taycan can only go up to 270kW but that does not mean DC Handal’s latest DC charger is too overpowered. The Kempower Satellite Charging System has a dynamic power sharing capability which allows each charging satellite to deliver a DC charging speed of up to 100kW if the station is fully occupied.
This should help cut the waiting time as 100kW can be considered fast enough for most EVs in our market. Meanwhile, the charging fee for DC Handal’s new site at WCE Trong Toll Plaza is RM1.50/kWh despite its status as one of the fastest EV chargers in the country.
EV owners can utilise the new charging station by using their credit or debit card at the payment terminal that is located between charging satellites 2 and 3. Alternatively, you can also utilise the ChargEV or JomCharge app to activate them.
