Tesla Malaysia plans to deploy a Supercharger station at The Gardens Mall. The company revealed this after announcing 1 Utama as the latest location of the Tesla Cybertruck tour in Malaysia.
It will become the eighth Supercharger location in Klang Valley
The timing of the announcement is rather peculiar as the company has just finished its Cybetruck showcase at the shopping mall last weekend. That being said, Tesla Malaysia did not reveal when exactly the new Supercharger will go online.
However, Tesla’s Regional Director Isabel Fan has previously said that Kuala Lumpur will have two more Supercharger locations within Q2 of this year. So, we expect that the new deployment will go live by the end of this month.
The Gardens Mall is the third Supercharger location in Kuala Lumpur after Pavilion KL and Bukit Jalil. It is also the eighth Supercharger spot in Klang Valley once you include Gamuda Cove Kuala Langat, IOI City Mall Putrajaya, IOI Mall Puchong, Sunway Pyramid, and Tesla Service Centre Cyberjaya in the picture.
Through a Tesla Supercharger, Model 3 and Model Y owners in Malaysia can obtain up to 270km of range with just 15 minutes of charging time. Both EVs can support a charging rate of up to 250kW at a Supercharger, depending on their variants.
A sign of commitment from Tesla Malaysia
In a way, today’s revelation might be the company’s way to assure Tesla owners (and the Malaysian government) that it is still committed to expanding the Tesla charging network in Malaysia. Back in April, Tesla CEO Elon Musk fired the entire 500-member Supercharger team which made some worried that the move would stifle the development of Tesla’s charging infrastructure.
Elon then tried to dismiss the concern by saying that the company will spend over USD500 million (~RM2.3 billion) to expand its Supercharger network this year. In addition to that, Tesla has reportedly rehired some of the Supercharger team members.
