Local charge point operator (CPO) EVPower recently announced a strategic partnership with the Qingdao TELD New Energy Technology (TELD). The new cooperation aims to boost EV charging infrastructure throughout Malaysia.
TELD operates one of the largest EV charging networks in China
Established in 2014, TELD is not exactly a well-known name over here. However, it is a huge name in China as the company operates one of the country’s largest public EV charging network.
According to its website, the TELD public EV charging network covers 350 cities across China through more than 25,000 charging stations. In total, the company currently has 388,000 charging terminals under its wing that can deliver a total capacity of 12.65 million kW.
Aside from the standard AC and DC chargers, the company also developed other charging solutions such as solar-assisted battery storage systems and vehicle-grid integration. TELD has also deployed a charging network and solutions for public transport, commercial fleets, airport vehicles, residentials, ports, and highways.
Through the new partnership, EVPower is essentially looking to tap into TELD’s expertise and solutions including both software and hardware. This is as the CPO is looking to grow its reach throughout Malaysia and other markets within Southeast Asia.
EVPower to roll out ultra-fast charging stations at highway R&Rs
Meanwhile, EVPower has also said it is going to deploy several ultra-fast EV charging stations at highway R&Rs. The company plans to set up at least four charging bays for each station together with DC charging speed of up to 480kW.
The CPO did not provide further details regarding the rollout timeline and the exact location of these ultra-fast EV charging stations though. It did say that the “planning and development” for the first batch of chargers will begin next month while more than six stations are currently going through “approval stages”.
EVPower so far has deployed 100 chargers throughout the country and currently aims to increase that figure to at least 200 by the end of 2024. The company also has an EV charging hub in Melaka that features eight 22kW AC chargers and a dual-nozzle 60kW DC charger.
