Slowly but surely, Realme has been expanding their Realme 12 series with more and more members. Having first debuted with the Realme 12 Pro+ 5G and Realme 12+ 5G followed by the Realme 12 5G, the Chinese manufacturer is now teasing yet another smartphone in the lineup, the Realme 12x 5G.
According to Realme, they will be having a launch event for the Realme 12x 5G on the 2nd of May, a day after the Labour Day public holiday in Malaysia. They claim that not only will the Realme 12x 5G feature a ‘light feather design’ and 5G network connectivity, but that it will also be their most affordable new 5G smartphone yet with aspirations of becoming the go-to 5G smartphone in its price segment for Malaysians.
For comparison, some of the latest budget-friendly 5G smartphones around include the Samsung Galaxy A15 5G at RM1,199, the Poco X6b at RM1,199 the Redmi Note 13 5G at RM1,099, the Honor X7b 5G at RM899 and their own Realme 11x 5G from last year was priced at RM999.
As for the hardware itself, while the Realme 12x 5G may not have launched in Malaysia just yet, we can take a look at its specs based on what we know when it debuted in China last month. The affordable smartphone comes with a 6.67-inch, FHD+ LCD display with a 120Hz refresh rate and a peak brightness of 625nits, slightly brighter than the Realme 11x 5G’s 550nits. Under the hood though, it has the same MediaTek Dimensity 6100+ system-on-chip as its predecessor with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage.
Other features of note include a 5,000mAh battery with 15W fast charging via USB-C, a 3.5mm audio jack and Android 14 out of the box. There’s also a main 50MP camera on the back with an 8MP selfie shooter up front. Aside from 5G, the Realme 12x 5G is also slated to support WiFi 5, NFC and Bluetooth 5.3 connectivity.
