It’s been over a year now since the last MagicBook X 16, which is perhaps why Honor has finally refreshed its affordable 16-inch laptop in Malaysia with a more powerful processor under the hood alongside a cheaper price tag.

The new Honor MagicBook X 16 will be available in just a single configuration, with an Intel Core i5-12450H, 8GB of RAM and a 512GB SSD priced at RM2,999. Available from 25 April onwards from the Honor Malaysia website as well as their official store on Lazada, Shopee and TikTok, early birds will also be able to get a free Honor backpack and a year’s subscription of Microsoft 365 while stocks last.

There is a fairly good reason why this laptop is going for a reasonably cheap price of course. Unlike some of the latest laptops around, the MagicBook X 16 is using an older 12th Gen Intel Core i5-12450H. The eight core, 12-thread processor offers a mild bump over the last MagicBook X 16 in Malaysia thanks to it being a H-series chip instead of the lower power U-series one in its predecessor. It’s been mated to 8GB of LPDDR4X RAM and a 512GB SSD with Windows 11 Home out of the box.
The lid of the Honor MagicBook X 16 is built out of an ‘aircraft-grade’ aluminum alloy, which in turn houses the 16-inch IPS display with an 89% screen-to-body ratio. It has a 1920 x 1200p resolution in a 16:10 aspect ratio, is capable of up to 300nits of brightness, has TUV Rheinland Low Blue Light certification and covers 45% of the NTSC colour gamut.
Other features of note include a 42Wh battery that Honor says will be good for up to nine hours of local 1080p video playback, with the included charger capable of bringing it back to 53% in just 30 minutes. As for I/O, you’ll find two USB-A 3.2 Gen 1 ports, a USB-C 3.2 Gen 1 port that doubles as its charging port, a HDMI 1.4b output and a 3.5mm combo audio jack. You’ll also find a full sized keyboard with the numpad, a 720p webcam, stereo speakers and support for WiFi 6 and Bluetooth 5.1 wireless connectivity.
