The Xiaomi SU7 has officially launched, marking its official entry into the competitive EV market. The SU7 was first unveiled by Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun in December last year and the popular smartphone maker has finally released the official pricing and the full details of the entire lineup. There are a total of three variants – the SU7 standard, SU7 Pro and the SU7 Max. Xiaomi has already started accepting bookings for the performance EV and customer deliveries are expected to start soon.
Xiaomi SU7, SU7 Pro and SU7 Max Pricing
Here’s the official pricing for the Xiaomi SU7 EV in China:
- Xiaomi SU7 Standard – CNY215,900 (about RM141,525)
- Xiaomi SU7 Pro – CNY245,900 (about RM161,189)
- Xiaomi SU7 Max – CNY299,900 (about RM196,587)
While Xiaomi’s first EV is not for the budget-conscious, the SU7 lineup is priced very competitively against other mainstream rivals including Tesla. As a comparison, the latest upgraded Tesla Model 3 in China is priced at CNY245,900 (about RM161,189) for the RWD standard range (606km CLTC-rated range), while the AWD Long Range variant (717km CLTC-rated range) is priced at CNY285,900 (about RM187,410).
Mass deliveries are expected to start in China by the end of April 2024 and it didn’t take too long for potential buyers to snap up the SU7. According to Xiaomi, they received 10,000 bookings in just 4 minutes and eventually 50,000 bookings in 27 minutes.
The SU7 lineup is manufactured at Xiaomi’s EV factory which was designed with sustainability in mind. According to Lei Jun, the roof has solar panels capable of generating up to 16.4M kWh of clean energy annually.
Xiaomi SU7 Key Specs and Features
The Xiaomi SU7 Max is designed to be a Porsche Taycan Turbo beater and the sleek aerodynamic design offers an impressive drag coefficient of just 0.195Cd. With its dual-motor AWD setup, it produces a total output of 664hp and 838Nm of torque. It is quicker than the Taycan Turbo, boasting a 0-100km/h time of 2.78 seconds, up to a top speed of 265km/h. To unlock the maximum performance, the SU7 Max has a boost mode which unlocks the maximum torque for 20 seconds. The range-topping variant is also equipped with Launch Control with active aero and adjustable rear wings.
The SU7 Max has the biggest battery of the lot with a 101kWh CATL 800V battery with a CLTC-rated range of 800km on a single charge. With an ultra-fast DC charger, the SU7 can gain up to 510km of range with just a quick 15-minute charge. 10-80% charge takes just 19 minutes.
For those seeking something more affordable, Xiaomi also offers the standard SU7 and the SU7 Pro which come with a single-motor RWD setup. Both variants produce 295hp and 400Nm of torque, however, the battery capacity is different. The base SU7 is equipped with a 73.6kWh battery with a CLTC-rated range of 700km on a single charge. Meanwhile, the SU7 Pro offers the longest range in the Xiaomi EV lineup with a 94.3kWh battery and it has a CLTC-rated range of 830km on a single charge.
The SU7 can sprint from 0-100km/h in 5.28 seconds while the SU7 Pro with a bigger battery does the century sprint in a respectable 5.7 seconds. Both share the same maximum top speed of 210km/h.
It should be noted that EVs for the Chinese market typically advertise their range using the CLTC standard which is far more lenient than the globally used WLTP-cycle. For charging, both SU7 and SU7 Pro use a 400V battery architecture, taking 25 and 30 minutes to charge from 10-80% respectively.
Across the range, the SU7 uses double wishbone suspension for the front and a five-link independent suspension for the rear. The Max variant gets adaptive air suspension which can switch between soft and firm,and high and low. The SU7 lineup gets ventilated disc brakes on all four wheels while the SU7 Max gets Brembo four-piston fixed caliper and perforated ventilated disc brakes.
Xiaomi SU7 Founders Edition
During the launch event, Xiaomi has also unveiled a Founders Edition of the SU7 that’s limited to just 5,000 units. The limited edition EV comes with carbon fibre side mirror housing and a unique Founders Edition metal badge on the sides. For the interior, you also get the metal Founders Edition badge and an exclusive number on the base of the steering.
