Just under a month after debuting the Realme 12+ 5G and Realme 12 Pro+ 5G, the Chinese manufacturer is back again with a new midrange smartphone: the Realme 12 5G. This is the ‘baby’ of the family so to speak, being the cheapest member of the Realme 12 series while still packing its fair share of camera capabilities.
Realme 12 5G Malaysia pricing and availability
The Realme 12 5G will be available in Malaysia in two configurations:
- Realme 12 5G, 8GB RAM, 256GB storage – RM1,099
- Realme 12 5G, 8GB RAM, 512GB storage – RM1,299
It will go on sale from 26 March onwards at all Realme Brand Stores and partnered authorised dealers nationwide, as well as online via their official Lazada, Shopee and Tiktok store. On top of that, from 26 March till 30 April each purchase of the Realme 12 5G will also come with gifts worth up to RM399, which include a pair of Techlife Wireless Earbuds, a one year extended warranty and a 30-day 1-to-1 replacement guarantee.
Realme 12 5G specs
Just like the rest of the Realme 12 series family, the Realme 12 5G features a design inspired by luxury watches, with a round camera bump complete with a polished ‘sunburst’ dial around it as well as a 3D textured strip down the middle of the rear panel with flat, polished PVD edges. In front meanwhile is a 6.72-inch LCD display pushing a FHD+ resolution, a 120Hz refresh rate and a peak brightness of 950nits.
Under the hood, you’ll find a MediaTek Dimensity 6100+ system-on-chip, which gets mated to 8GB of LPDDR4X RAM and up to 512GB of storage. It runs Android 14 out of the box, skinned with Realme UI 5.0 over it.
As for cameras, the Realme 12 5G comes with a dual rear camera setup, sporting a main 108MP, f/1.8 camera flanked by a 2MP, f/2.4 depth sensor. That main camera uses a 1/1.67″ image sensor with 9-in-1 pixel binning, which Realme says is the largest camera sensor in this segment and offers a 3x ‘lossless’ in-sensor zoom for better portraits. For selfies meanwhile you get an 8MP, f/2.0 front facing camera.
Other features of note here include a 5,000mAh battery with support for 45W SuperVOOC fast charging that can power it back from 1% to 50% in just half an hour. There’s also symmetrical stereo speakers, an IP54 dust and water resistance rating as well as a side-mounted fingerprint sensor on the power button that doubles as a ‘dynamic button’ which can be customised to open up things such as the camera, music app, flashlight and so on. The Realme 12 5G supports 5G, NFC, WiFi 5 and Bluetooth 5.2 wireless connectivity too.
