Having first been spotted on the SIRIM database last month, Xiaomi’s new entry level smartphone is now officially in Malaysia. The Redmi A3 brings with it a fresh new look and some nice quality of life features that aren’t always guaranteed at its price point.

Redmi A3 Malaysia pricing and availability

The Redmi A3 is available for pre-order already in Malaysia from now till 21 March, with a single configuration of 4GB of RAM and 128GB of storage priced at RM429. You can find it at the official Xiaomi store as well as all Xiaomi authorised retailers nationwide. The official Xiaomi store is also giving those who pre-order the Redmi A3 a free pair of in-ear headphones while stocks last.

Redmi A3 specs

Despite its sub-RM500 price tag, you’re actually getting a rather respectable 6.71-inch, LCD display pushing a HD+ (1650 x 720p) resolution with a 90Hz refresh rate and a peak brightness of 500nits. There’s also a layer of Corning Gorilla Glass 3 over it for scratch resistance. Flip it around and you’ll find a huge circular camera bump, along with a matte leather-like finish on the Green colourway and a glass panel on the Black and Blue versions.

Powering the Redmi A3 then is a Mediatek Helio G36, an entry level 12nm system-on-chip with eight Cortex-A53 cores. That gets mated to 4GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 128GB of eMMC 5.1 storage, with support for up to 1TB of expandable storage too. It runs MIUI-flavoured Android 14 out of the box with Xiaomi guaranteeing two major Android OS upgrades and three years of security patches for the Redmi A3.

In the camera department, that large circular camera island houses a main 8MP, f/2.0 camera capable of up to 1080p 30fps video recording flanked by a QVGA auxiliary lens. Up front meanwhile is a 5MP, f/2.2 selfie camera. Other features of note include a 5,000mAh battery with 10W charging, a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, a 3.5mm audio jack and support for dual 4G, WiFi 5 and Bluetooth 5.4 wireless connectivity.
