BYD offerings in Malaysia have now been expanded to three models with today’s launch of BYD Seal. Just like the previously released Atto 3 and Dolphin, the brand’s distributor in Malaysia, Sime Darby Beyond Auto (SDBA) has provided some freebies for the early adopters of the new electric sedan.
BYD Seal early bird freebies are limited to 800 customers
If you are one of the first 800 customers that book the new electric sedan, you will be provided with two major freebies including RM800 credit for EV charging. You can choose whether to have the credit redeemable on the newly launched Gentari Go app or use it on the ChargEV app instead.
At the same time, the early bird promo for BYD Seal also includes a 7kW Wallbox Pulsar Plus charger. This was confirmed by representatives from Kineta, a subsidiary of Sime Darby that dabbles in EV charging solutions.
BYD Seal Malaysia pricing, colourways, warranty
In Malaysia, the BYD Seal can be obtained in two different variants and are priced as below:
- BYD Seal Premium: RM179,800
- BYD Seal Performance: RM199,800
Do note that the pricing mentioned above is just for the vehicle alone. The actual on-the-road (OTR) pricing is RM180,430 and RM200,430 respectively once you consider related fees such as insurance, ownership endorsement, base plate, and inspection although the OTR pricing is not inclusive of insurance.
Regarding colourways, the Seal Premium can be obtained in Cosmos Black, Aurora White, and Atlantis Grey. As for the Seal Performance, it is available in all three colourways as well as Arctic Blue.
BYD Seal comes standard with a 6-year / 150,000km vehicle warranty as a standard while there is also a separate 8-year / 160,000km warranty for its BYD Blade battery pack. Not enough with that, BYD and Sime Darby has also provided these warranty policies for the vehicle:
- 8-year / 150,000km: Drive unit
- 4-year / 100,000km: Vehicle lights, Tyre Pressure Monitoring Module, suspension, ball joint
- 3-year / 60,000km: Multimedia system, USB charging port connector, PM2.5 measuring instrument, dust cover, bushing/gasket, shock absorber, wheel bearing, AC/DC charging port assembly
BYD Seal Malaysia quick specs
Built with a rear-wheel drive (RWD) setup, the Seal Premium features just one but still fairly powerful 230kW (309hp) electric motor that can also deliver 360Nm of torque. This particular variant can accelerate from 0 to 100km/h in 5.9 seconds.
As for the Seal Performance which is fitted with two electric motors, this all-wheel drive (AWD) model has a total output of 390kW (523hp) as well as 670Nm of torque. BYD is absolutely proud of this variant’s ability to go from 0 to 100km/h in just 3.8 seconds to the extent that it has put a “3.8” emblem on the car’s boot lid which also made it easier for anyone to identify a Seal Performance model.
When it comes to the battery, both Seal Premium and Performance have been equipped with a sizeable 82.56kWh battery pack. However, the Premium has a slightly higher WLTP-rated range of 570km as opposed to Performance’s range which is 520km but then again, this is not exactly surprising given the latter’s AWD setup and higher output.
Meanwhile, both variants can support DC fast charging of up to 150kW which allows them to be recharged from 30% to 80% in 18 minutes. Unlike certain markets, the BYD Seal for our market only comes with a single phase 7kW AC onboard charger (similar to Atto 3 and Dolphin) which would take around 15 hours to get the EV from 0% to 100% given its massive 82.56kWh battery.
