We have covered the Chinese launch of the Xiaomi 14 series previously, complete with the boxy-shaped camera bump on the back. Everybody’s next question was – what the Ultra model will look like. Well, thanks to top tipster Roland Quandt from Winfuture.de, we have the first look at Xiaomi’s 2024 flagship that the brand is set to showcase at the upcoming Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2024.
A similar design from last year
From the outside, the Xiaomi 14 Ultra looks similar to the Xiaomi 13 Ultra, but with a stark difference – the sides of the phone now are flat, mirroring the base Xiaomi 14, iPhone 15 series and Samsung Galaxy S24 series. You can consider this design as a refinement rather than an evolutionary design.
Along with the flat sides is an almost flat screen, as seen from the renders here. The screen will be a large 6.73-inch display using AMOLED technology. We should expect a 120Hz refresh rate with an expected resolution of 1440 x 3200 pixels. We are also expecting a peak brightness of 3,000 nits coming from this panel – the same brightness as Xiaomi 14.
Big cameras on the back of the phone
The camera module is again in a circle on the back, just like the previous model. According to the leaks, there will be four 50MP camera sensors on the back. This mirrors what we have seen with the Xiaomi 13 Ultra. The main sensor is again a 1”-type sensor to deliver more than good photography. Unfortunately, we may not see the variable aperture on the main camera as @rquandt states that the maximum aperture will be at f/1.6 – no mention of different aperture values.
The camera should be able to record 8K videos or slow-mo videos at 1920 fps at 1080p resolution. For selfies, there is a 32MP sensor on the front that also supports 4K recording.
Third-generation snapping dragon
Xiaomi is said to include the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for the SoC of the phone, so it is definitely flagship-level. The phone will have a max RAM of 16GB, and up to 1TB of storage as options. Of course, different regions will have different options once the phone is launched.
The battery inside is said to be 5,300mAh, which is bigger than the 5,000mAh battery in the Xiaomi 13 Ultra. Charging will be via a 90W capable charger or wireless up to 50W. Other features include WiFi 7, Bluetooth 5.4, dual SIM slots and an optical fingerprint sensor under the front display.
Incredibly, Xiaomi managed to shave some weight from this phone as the expected weight will be 220 grams. However, it is uncertain if that lightweight will be the Titanium version or the normal aluminium version. What is also nice is that the phone will be IP68 certified for dust and water resistance.
Xiaomi 14 Ultra expected global pricing
As we wait for the global launch event, @rquandt shared some expected prices for the phone. The Xiaomi 14 Ultra should be priced at 1,499 Euros (or about RM7,721) in France for the 16GB/512GB model. We should get the price for Malaysia soon enough, if not during the launch event itself.
