Xiaomi has launched a brand new entry level smartphone, the Redmi A3. Their latest entry level device brings with it a fresh new design and some nice-to-haves such as a large high refresh rate display as well as USB-C charging, features that aren’t always guaranteed present on entry level smartphones.
Now while Xiaomi Malaysia has not made any mention of whether or not it’ll be coming to our shores, chances are that it will be making its way to Malaysia fairly soon. As spotted by the folks at Lowyat.net, the Redmi A3 has already been listed on the SIRIM database, having been approved since late last year. In India where it has already launched, the Redmi A3 starts at just INR7,299 for the base model with 3GB of RAM and 64GB of storage, rising to INR8,299 for 4GB of RAM and 128GB of storage while for INR9,299 you get 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage.
Specs-wise, the Redmi A3 features a large 6.7-inch LCD display, pushing a HD+ (1650 x 720p) resolution along with a 90Hz refresh rate. It also comes with a layer of Corning Gorilla Glass 3 over it for some scratch resistance. The Midnight Black and Lake Blue colourways offer a glass rear panel, while the Olive Green comes with a leather-like textured back panel instead.
Under the hood, the Redmi A3 comes equipped with a MediaTek Helio G36, a 12nm entry-level system-on-chip mated to up to 6GB of RAM and up to 128GB of storage; expandable storage of up to 1TB is also an option. You’ll find Android 14 Go out of the box here, while keeping the lights on is a 5,000mAh battery with 10W wired charging via USB-C.
The large camera bump on the back, which Xiaomi is calling the ‘Premium Halo’ design, actually sports just a single usable 8MP main camera with a 0.08MP auxiliary lens; a 5MP selfie shooter rounds things off. Other features of note include a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, a 3.5mm audio jack and support for WiFi 5 and Bluetooth 5.3 wireless connectivity.
