The Huawei Watch Ultimate is the brand’s top-of-the-line smartwatch offering. Being a diver-centric smartwatch, it competes with the likes of the Apple Watch Ultra. Besides having a rugged premium design, Huawei has engaged a professional diver to develop the Watch Ultimate’s diving capabilities. Sendoh Wang, an AIDA freediving instructor and trainer, was in Kuala Lumpur recently during the DRT Show to share his experience with the Huawei Watch Ultimate.
In case you didn’t know, Wang from China is a freediving multi-record holder in the region. Some of his key achievements include setting an impressive continental record (Asia) of 116 meters for the Constant Weight (CWT) category and another continental record (Asia) of 109 meters for the Free Immersion (FIM) category. These records were achieved while wearing the Huawei Watch Ultimate. His total score for four depth disciplines is 411 points, placing him 6th in the world.
According to Huawei, Wang has contributed to the development of the Huawei Watch Ultimate as a consultant. From his professional diving experience, he has provided input to Huawei on the needs and functions of divers. This included the watch face details, diving data and notifications required for a diving watch.
Commenting on the watch, Wang said, “With its cutting-edge 100m diving technology, this watch empowers divers to explore the underwater world with confidence. Boasting a 1.5-inch LTPO AMOLED display and encased in zirconium-based liquid metal, it provides durability and clear visibility in challenging underwater environments.”
The Huawei Watch Ultimate has both ISO 22810 and EN 13319 certification and it is designed to be submerged under 100m of water. That’s deeper than the Apple Watch Ultra which was designed to be submerged up to 40m.
During the DRT Show, Huawei’s Vice President of Health & Fitness Development, Christine Jiang, said the Huawei Watch Ultimate is designed with divers in mind and its purpose is to ensure the safety of every diver, enhancing their diving experience so they can immerse themselves in the joys of exploring the remarkable underwater world.
She added that the Watch Ultimate sets new benchmarks in functionality and precision by offering divers essential insights and support. Huawei claims that its built-in professional-grade diving computer enhances safety and performance underwater with the integration of Bühlmann Algorithm and expert diving guidance, ensuring reliable navigation and control, even under tough conditions.
The Huawei Watch Ultimate also features advanced features such as overtime and over-depth prediction along with over 20 safety reminders. Besides being responsive in water, the watch has a 3-button design which enables seamless navigation and control even in challenging conditions. The Watch Ultimate also gets a built-in buzzer and motor, and provides real-time alerts and notifications to keep divers informed and safe throughout their dives.
In Malaysia, the Huawei Watch Ultimate is priced from RM3,299. The smartwatch boasts up to 14 days of battery life and it’s compatible with both iOS (iOS 9 and above) and Android (Android 6.0 and above) smartphones. The Watch Ultimate is currently available on the official store on Lazada and Shopee, as well as Huawei Experience Stores in Malaysia.
