The new Shell Recharge high-performance charging (HPC) hub in Resorts World Genting is now online. Located within the open-air car park in front of the Highlands Hotel, this particular hub features DC fast charging capability of up to 360kW which is essentially the fastest public EV charger in Malaysia to date.
The 360kW charger comes with hefty charging fees
As per our report last December, the Shell Recharge HPC hub at Genting Highlands offers 10 charging bays. According to the ParkEasy app, 4 of them are meant for the DC fast charging.
Given the 360kW maximum output, this generally means that each bay can provide at least 90kW if all four charging bays are fully occupied. Like most Shell Recharge HPC locations throughout Malaysia, charging your EV at the new Genting Highlands hub comes at a hefty price.
In fact, we believe this is the most expensive Shell Recharge location in Malaysia. For one, the confirmation fee for the DC fast charger alone is already RM10.00 (10.00 credits).
In addition to that, it also costs RM2.80 (2.80 credit) per kWh to charge your EV. Furthermore, there is also an idle fee of RM10.00 (10.00 credits) for every 15 minutes that you forget to remove your EV from the bay once it is done charging.
That being said, there is a ceiling limit of RM400 (400 credits) which is still quite bonkers, to say the least. As a comparison, the 180kW Shell Recharge HPC sites along the North-South Expressway have a confirmation fee of RM5.00 (5.00 credits) and the usage fee is currently set to RM2.20 (2.20 credits) per kWh.
22kW AC chargers are also available
If 4 charging bays have been reserved for the DC fast charger, how about the 6 remaining bays? Well, each of them has been fitted with a 22kW AC charger and are meant for those who plan to spend their time at the hilltop integrated resort for an extended period.
When it comes to charging fees for these AC chargers, they are not cheap either although not as high as their DC charger counterpart. To use them, you have to pay RM8.00 (8.00 credits) for the confirmation fee while the usage fee is RM1.30 (1.30 credits) per kWh.
The AC chargers still have an idle fee but at a much lower rate of just RM2.00 (2.00 credits) for every 30 minutes that you leave your EV connected to them after it finished charging. The maximum fee that ParkEasy would charge customers for these AC charging bays is also way lower at RM200 (200 credits).
