Almost two months after we first noticed their existence, Tesla Superchargers in Pavilion Bukit Jalil are finally operational. This was announced by Tesla Malaysia through its official Instagram and X pages.
Eight Tesla charging bays in total
Located at the shopping mall’s B1 carpark near Pillar H19, Tesla owners can charge their vehicles through one of the six Superchargers that have been installed there. Just like previous Supercharger deployments in Malaysia, Pavilion Bukit Jalil was fitted with V3 Superchargers which can deliver DC fast charging speeds up to 250kW.
Alongside these Superchargers, there are two Destination Charging bays which are meant for Tesla owners who plan to stay at the shopping mall for an extended time. As you may know, the two Tesla offerings in Malaysia which are Model 3 and Model Y can support up to 11kW of AC charging when plugged to the Wall Connector at the Destination Charging bays.
Similar to other Supercharger locations, Pavilion Bukit Jalil’s Superchargers are currently exclusive to Tesla owners. For now, the non-Tesla Supercharging capability has not yet been activated in Malaysia while the Destination Charging bays have also been labelled as “Tesla Charging Only” which signifies that the Wall Connectors have been set to only support Tesla vehicles.
Similarly, it currently costs RM1.50/kWh to charge your Tesla using the Superchargers at Pavilion Bukit Jalil. However, you may want to check their availability before making your way there with your Tesla as Xen Xen, a moderator at the Malaysian EV Owners Club (MyEVOC) Facebook group shared that only two Superchargers were working today while the rest were out of order.
The progress of Tesla charging infrastructure in Malaysia so far
Since Tesla made its official debut in Malaysia last July, six Tesla Supercharger sites have been established in Peninsular Malaysia. Aside from Pavilion Bukit Jalil, you can find a Supercharger at Sunway Pyramid, Pavilion KL, Tesla Service Centre Cyberjaya, Freeport A’Famosa Melaka, and Sunway Bigbox Iskandar Puteri.
Except for Tesla Service Centre Cyberjaya, Sunway Pyramid, and Pavilion KL, all of these locations are also Destination Charging sites. The list also includes Pavilion Damansara Heights and Sunway Velocity Mall while the Wall Connectors at All Seasons Place Penang are still waiting to be operational even though they have been installed at the location since early December last year.
While all these chargers can only be accessed by Tesla vehicles for now, things may change in the near future. According to the agreement with the Ministry of Investment, Trade, and Industry (MITI), Tesla has to build 50 fast chargers by 2026 and at least 30% of them can be accessed by any EVs regardless of their brands.
