Over the years, Asus has becomes perhaps the last bastion of hope for anyone seeking a compact flagship Android smartphone with a sub-6-inch display size thanks to their Zenfone lineup. However, it seems that the Taiwanese manufacturer might be pivoting towards the larger displays offered by everyone else with their upcoming Zenfone device.
In a series of leaks first posted by Mukul Sharma on X and then added on by Evleaks, it appears that Asus is preparing to launch the Zenfone 11 Ultra. This upcoming smartphone would be a huge shift away from the Zenfones of yore, reportedly packing a significantly larger 6.78-inch AMOLED display pushing an FHD+ resolution with an up to 144Hz refresh rate. It would be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 system-on-chip, with up to 16GB of RAM and up to 512GB of storage.
The Zenfone 11 Ultra is also said to have a triple rear camera setup with a main 50MP shooter using a Sony IMX890 sensor, a 13MP ultrawide and a 32MP telephoto offering a 3x optical zoom while a 32MP selfie shooter sits in front. Then there’s a 5,500mAh battery too with support for 65W wired fast charging and 15W wireless charging. Stereo speakers would be present as well, along with a 3.5mm headphone jack.
If that spec sheet looks familiar to you, then that’s because it’s actually more or less the same stuff you’d find on the ROG Phone 8 series. Asus’ flagship gaming smartphone also saw a major redesign for this year, and has a similarly sized high refresh rate display, the same internals, a similar looking camera bump with nearly an identical camera setup and even the same battery capacity and charging speeds. The leaked renders though do point at a much more subtle design, with what appears to be a matte back featuring the Asus monogram logo throughout.
On the brightside, with Asus going for the ‘Ultra’ moniker here, there is still a chance that a more compact Zenfone 11 could appear down the line. Nevertheless, chances are you won’t be able to buy either Zenfone 11 Ultra or any potential Zenfone 11 in Malaysia anyway; Asus’ last non-ROG smartphone in Malaysia was the Zenfone 8, as the Zenfone 9 and Zenfone 10 never made it to our shores in any official capacity.
