In conjunction with the 50th Federal Territories Day on 1st February 2024, the Road Transport Department (JPJ) is kicking off online bidding for its new GOLD series of special number plates. For clarity, the colour of the plate remains the same and you’re bidding for the GOLD vehicle registration series which runs from 1 to 9,999.
GOLD 1 to GOLD 9999 up for bidding on 1st February 2024
If you’re interested in securing your “GOLD” number plate, you can place your bids online on the JPJ eBid platform. Bidding will start on Thursday, 1st February 2024 and will end on Monday, 5th February 2024 at 10.00pm. The bidding results will be announced on Tuesday, 6th February 2024.
Similar to previous JPJ eBids, the minimum bid for the premium “golden” numbers such as 1 to 10 is RM20,000, and the incremental bid is RM1,000. For “attractive” numbers (e.g. 11, 88, 555, 888, 8888, 9999), the minimum bid is RM3,000 with an incremental bid of RM150.
Meanwhile, bids for “popular” numbers (e.g. 80, 181, 787, 808, 1010, 8008, 8899, 9988) start from RM800 with an incremental bid of RM40. The remaining “running” numbers start from RM300 with an incremental bid of RM15.
50% of revenue for GOLD bids will fund MOT initiatives
According to Transport Minister Anthony Loke, 50% of the earnings from the bid will be used to fund ongoing and new initiatives under his ministry. This will include SOCSO contributions for 40,000 taxi drivers in Malaysia and other initiatives such as driving licence assistance, helmet assistance and FlySiswa subsidies.
It was revealed that the highest revenue JPJ ever received was for the FF number plate series which generated RM35 million. The Sultan of Johor paid RM1.2 million for FF1, which sets the record for the most expensive Malaysian licence plate ever.
Loke added that he hopes JPJ can earn more for the GOLD series and he urged the public to participate in the bidding as it can help to fund programs that assist the less fortunate.
