Honor has announced its upcoming global product launch which will be happening in conjunction with MWC 2024 in Barcelona. Similar to last year, the Chinese smartphone maker will be introducing its latest Honor Magic flagship series as well as a new foldable device for the global market.
As confirmed by Honor Malaysia, they will be unveiling its new Honor Magic 6 series as well as a new special variant of the Honor Magic V2 foldable device. The event is happening at 2pm Barcelona Time (9pm Malaysian time) on 25th February 2024. Since Malaysia is a key market, you can expect these devices to launch locally shortly after the global event.
Honor Magic 6 and 6 Pro
The Honor Magic 6 series was unveiled several weeks ago in China and both the Magic 6 and Magic 6 Pro are running on Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. The range-topping Magic 6 Pro comes with a 6.8″ “quad-curved” 120Hz OLED display that pushes a Full HD+ resolution of 2800×1280 pixels. What’s impressive on paper is its claimed peak HDR brightness of 5,000 nits which Honor guarantees superb visibility under direct sunlight. However, the typical maximum brightness is rated at 1,600 nits. Similar to last year’s model, the PWM Dimming is one of its key highlights which is now bumped up to 4320Hz for supposedly greater eye comfort.
Depending on the market, the Magic 6 Pro comes with either 12GB RAM with 256GB storage or 16GB RAM with either 512GB or 1TB of storage.
Over at the rear, the Magic 6 Pro still features a large circular camera bump with a triple-camera setup. This year’s flagship now gets a 50MP main camera with f/1.4-f/2.0 variable aperture, a 50MP ultra-wide-angle shooter and a 180MP periscope telephoto camera that provides 2.5x optical zoom.
Just like the Magic 5 Pro, you can still do digital zoom up to 100x. Upfront, it gets a 50MP selfie camera along with a 3D ToF sensor that’s housed in a pill-shaped cutout.
Powering the Honor Magic 6 Pro is a 5,600mAh silicon carbon battery which supports 80W fast wired charging and 66W wireless charging. As you would expect from a proper flagship, it also comes with IP68-rated dust and water resistance. In China, the Honor Magic 6 Pro starts from CNY 5,699 (about RM3,758).
Meanwhile, the standard Magic 6 gets a flat 6.78″ 120Hz OLED display with a Full HD+ resolution of 2800×1264 pixels. Like the Pro model, it also boasts HDR peak brightness of 5,000 nits, a typical maximum brightness of 1,600 nits and 4320Hz PWM dimming. The device can be configured with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage or 16GB RAM with either 256GB and 512GB of storage.
In the camera department, the standard Magic 6 still gets a triple camera setup but it is a notch below as it consists of a 50MP f/1.9 main camera, a 50MP ultra-wide-angle shooter and a 32MP telephoto camera with 2.5x optical zoom. For selfies, the front gets a single 50MP camera that sits in a single punch-hole.
Powering the Honor Magic 6 is a slightly smaller 5,450mAh battery. However, it still supports a respectable 66W fast wired charging and 50W fast wireless charging. In China, the standard Magic 6 is priced from CNY4,399 (about RM2,901).
Both the Honor Magic 6 and 6 Pro are running on MagicOS 8.0 that’s based on Android 14.
Honor Magic V2 RSR with Porsche Design
If you’re looking for a more premium foldable device, Honor has also recently unveiled its Porsche Design Magic V2 RSR which will be released for the global market. Hardware-wise, it looks identical to the Honor Magic V2 that was launched in Malaysia for RM6,999, but it comes with a special Agate Grey colourway and some “flyline” elements on the rear which is supposedly inspired by the hood design of a Porsche 911.
It still runs on last year’s Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 while maintaining its ultra-thin profile of just 9.9mm when closed. To give it extra durability, Honor says the Porsche Design foldable features the industry’s first Anti-scratch NanoCrystal Shield which claims to offer tenfold improved scratch resistance and a hardness rating of over seven on the Mohs scale.
If you’re interested, Honor Malaysia has already begun accepting registrations of interest for the Porsche Design Honor Magic V2 RSR on their website. In China, the Porsche Design Honor Magic V2 RSR with 16GB RAM and 1TB storage is going for CNY 15,999 (about RM10,551).
