If you’re on Digi Postpaid 40 and 60, it looks like you can now enjoy 5G for free without buying booster add-ons. Based on responses we got online, it appears that most, if not all users on the two Digi Postpaid plans can activate the monthly 5G Access Pass for free.

To activate the 5G Access Pass, you’ll have to launch the MyDigi app (Apple App Store, Google Play Store, Huawei App Gallery), then go to the Buy Add-Ons section. If your plan is eligible, you should see the 5G Access Pass for 30 days for RM0.00.
Unfortunately, other legacy Digi Postpaid plans are not eligible including Digi Infinite and Postpaid 58. However, some have updated that their supplementary Digi Postpaid Family 20 2021 plan is also eligible to activate the 5G Access Pass.
Besides activating the 5G Access Pass, you’ll need to have a 5G-enabled smartphone and be within Digital Nasional Berhad’s 5G coverage area. Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil said recently that Malaysia’s 5G coverage has reached 80.2% of populated areas as of 31st December 2023. However, take note that indoor coverage is still lacking in most commercial buildings.
To recap, Digi Postpaid 40 comes with 30GB of data, while Digi Postpaid 60 comes with 50GB of data. Both postpaid plans offer unlimited calls and there’s an option to add family lines from RM20/month.
Finally, no extra charge to enjoy 5G
A few weeks ago, Fahmi said telcos will no longer impose 5G access fees on customers. While most telcos have not charged 5G access fees, CelcomDigi still requires customers on lower-tier plans to purchase 5G boosters to connect to DNB’s network.
When we contacted the recently-merged telco about the extra charges for 5G, CelcomDigi said their customers were not charged for 5G access. Instead, the 5G boosters were introduced to ensure customers can enjoy 5G services without disruption. They added that their 5G boosters which offer 60GB data for RM10/month is the most generous data quota offering in the market.
