More than a year after the company launched the Ora Good Cat in Malaysia, Great Wall Motor (GWM) is finally ready to expand its electric vehicle offering in Malaysia. The company has recently confirmed that it will be launching the Ora 07 in our market soon.
The confirmation came in the form of a teaser on GWM Malaysia’s Facebook and Instagram page. No launch date was mentioned but it should be quite near given the teaser’s release.
Ora 07 Malaysia to be priced at around RM200k?
Also known as the Ora Lightning Cat or Grand Cat, the new Ora 07 is a much higher-end model than the existing Good Cat given its size and performance. GWM Malaysia is still keeping the price a secret but we believe it will be priced much higher in our market than Thailand.
At the moment, the Long Range variant of the electric sedan is priced at THB1,299,000 (~RM172,348) after green vehicle rebates from Thai governments. On the other hand, the Performance model carries a price tag of THB1,499,000 (~RM198,884).
Hence, we are looking at a pricing of around RM200,000 in Malaysia for the Ora 07 Long Range. For the Performance option, we predict that it will be around RM230,000.
If our prediction is correct, then the Ora 07 is going to find itself in a very competitive segment of the market. This borderline price point between mainstream and premium EVs is already packed with so many options, including the Tesla Model 3 and Model Y, Smart #1, and the upcoming BYD Seal.
Unless GWM Malaysia officially reduced the pricing of Good Cat in Malaysia which currently stands at up to RM170,500 (there’s a RM17,000 rebate promotion going on right now though), we don’t think the Ora 07 will be priced at under RM180,000 or else, it would be too close to each other.
Ora 07 quick specs
As noted earlier, the Ora 07 can be obtained in Thailand in two different variants including the Long Range model which has a front-mounted 150kW (201hp) electric motor that also produces 340Nm of torque. On the other hand, the dual-motor all-wheel-drive Performance model offers double the output at 300kW (402hp) and 680Nm of torque.
In terms of acceleration, the Performance variant can go from 0 to 100km/h in 4.3 seconds although the sprint century timing for the Long Range model was not revealed by GWM. The company did mention that the Long Range model has a top speed of 170km/h while the Performance variant can go up to 180km/h.
Regarding the battery, both variants of Ora 07 feature an 83.5kWh ternary lithium battery pack. It allows the Long Range model to deliver up to 640km of range and 550km for the Performance variant although these figures were based on the more forgiving NEDC standards.
GWM also didn’t reveal much information regarding Ora 07’s charging capability but the company did say that it takes around 30 minutes to get the EV’s battery from 30% to 80% via DC fast charging. It also comes with 3.3kW Vehicle-To-Load (V2L) capability which allows users to power electrical appliances using Ora 07’s battery
