Redmi Note 13 Pro 5G: No IP68 rating, but gets new Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 and 200MP camera

Aside from the Redmi Note 13 Pro+ 5G, the Xiaomi sub-brand has also launched a cut down version of its upper midranger, the Redmi Note 13 Pro 5G. Despite being the regular ‘Pro’ version, it retains the same 200MP camera but makes some trade offs elsewhere in favour of a lower price tag.

Redmi Note 13 Pro 5G Malaysia pricing and availability

The Redmi Note 13 Pro 5G will come in just a single configuration in Malaysia with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, priced at RM1,399. You’ll be able to purchase it from 20 January onwards from all authorised Xiaomi stores nationwide as well as the official Xiaomi store on Lazada and Shopee.

From 20 January till 2 February, if you were to get the Redmi Note 13 Pro 5G from the official Xiaomi store on Shopee, you’ll be getting a free Redmi Buds 4 Active worth RM119 and a Xiaomi Smart Band 8 Active worth RM129.

For starters, while it has a similarly-sized 6.67-inch CrystalRes AMOLED display as its Pro+ sibling, it gets a regular flat display instead rather than a curved display—which, depending on who you ask, can be seen as a positive. Other than switching to a flat display, it is mostly the same with a 2712 x 1200p resolution, a 1,800nits peak brightness, a 5,000,000:1 contrast ratio, a 2,160Hz touch sampling rate, full coverage of the DCI-P3 colour gamut and a 1,920Hz PWM dimming. You’ll also find a layer of Corning Gorilla Glass Victus for scratch resistance.

The most noticeable change though will be under the hood, as the Redmi Note 13 Pro 5G comes with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 instead of the MediaTek silicon powering its stablemate. The Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 here gets mated to up to 12GB of LPDDR4X RAM and up to 512GB of UFS 2.2 storage, but in Malaysia only the base model with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage will be available. It comes with Android 13 out of the box, skinned with MIUI 14 over it.

If you were looking at the Redmi Note 13 Pro series for the camera, then the Redmi Note 13 Pro 5G does actually have the same camera setups as the more expensive Pro+ model. This means a 200MP, f/1.65 main camera using a 1/1.4″ sensor and 7P lens capable of 16-in-1 binning to 2.24μm pixels, OIS and ‘lossless’ in-sensor 2x and 4x zoom. Alongside it is an 8MP, f/2.2 ultrawide camera and a 2MP, f/2.4 macro lens; there’s a 16MP selfie camera up front too.

Other features of note include a 5,100mAh battery which is actually larger than the one in the Pro+, but charges ‘slower’ at just 67W with a full charge taking just 44 minutes. You’ll also lose out on the IP68 rating, with the Redmi Note 13 Pro 5G having an IP54 dust and water resistance rating, along with stereo speakers, a 3.5mm audio jack, an IR blaster, an in-display fingerprint sensor and support for WiFi 5, Bluetooth 5.2, NFC and 5G wireless connectivity. The Redmi Note 13 Pro 5G will be available in Midnight Black, Ocean Teal and Aurora Purple colourways.
